7 yr old with Chiari I

Pls help...My 7 year old boy diagnosed with Chiari I with symptoms might need surgery. We dont have pediatric Chiari specialists here in Canada so wondering what support we might have to go to US for this purpose? Thank you!

I dont know what insurances are accepted but my ns specializes in pediatric chiari if you ar interested.   I am in michigan so no clue how far away your are.  The surgeon is dr holly gilmer out of royal oak beaumont.  If you look her up on you tube you will see a full desciption of chiari from her and what she does in surgery.  Also beaumont has a chiari coordinator that works closely with dr gilmer.   The coorindator has a daughter had surgery when she was is i think.  Her daughter is now 21 and doing really well.  Anyway look her up if this is an option for you.

  Sorry no,they  do not share  that  info  here.....wish I had an idea, the  best suggestion I  can give  you is to call one of the offices  for a  Chiari  specialist  and ask for the  financial  desk, as they  will  work  with you  to let  you  know  which  and  how  all bills  will be charged....

Hi Selma, My question is if we will have coverage under our provincial insurance to get the surgery done in US. We are running additional tests and will have MRI and all reports for consultation/ treatment in US. Do you happen to have any info on patients from Canada going to US for treatment and having some sort of cost coverage at all. Thx

I am sorry   to  hear  your  DS  is  suffering  with  Chiari symptoms....

  Not  sure  what  you mean  by  support,  but  I  know  many  travel  not  only  within the US  to  specialists but  also  from  outside  the US  as well...so, the Drs  would  be  open  to  a  visit  and  some have locations   set  up  for out  of  town, state  and country  visitors  to lodge  close  to  the  hospital....

Can  you  get  copies  of  the MRI  and the reports  in order  to  set  up  a  visit?
