8 yr old- 3 weeks Post Op question

Hello!  My son is 3 weeks post op, and slowly healing up :)  Just a couple things I was curious about, and wanted to get some opinions before i called the Dr!
The right side of his head (lower head/neck) is swollen, and if you touch it at all he cringes and says it hurts.  Is this normal?
After the surgery (within days) he started saying his left eye was bothering him.  He couldnt see out of it, it was blurry, it hurts etc.  He wears glasses and I didnt bring them with to the hospital, so we assumed he just needed his glasses.  He is still complaining about this, and his teacher who does his home schooling says she notices he closes his left eye completely now when he is working with her.
Any help is apprciated :)

Call the Dr...ne xcess fluid can cause swelling as for the neck issue, and can also cause pressure on the eyes too!

Talk to the Dr, and set up something with an opthomologist....to check his eyes.

I developed a CSF leak after my surgery and it presented with headaches and blurred vision. Call the NS and see if they can run a CT scan to see if there is a fluid leak. IF that is the problem he will need another surgery to put in a shunt to relieve the pressure and allow the leak to heal. I ended up getting all sorts of tests for a month before I went to the ER and they found the leak. I hope this isn't the case but call the doctors and check everything just in case.

It was explained to me about the back of the neck that there is a muscle the size of a quarter that they have to move during surgery.  This could be causing the swelling.  I took mine a long time to reduce it's swellng.  As the NS states.  Your sons nerves have memories and right now it is telling him it hurt's which it does.  I don't know what to say about the eye sight.  You might want to ask the Dr. about this.  It could be that he didn't have his glasses in the hospital and it could be the reason, but better safe than sorry.  Wish you the best in your DS recovery. Hope this help's ease a little of your concern.  We don't realize what our bodies have to go through when having this surgery.  Please just make sure he get's lot's of rest and not lifting, straining, bending.  It will help him heal faster.
