AUSTRALIAN CHIARI SPECIALIST

Hi everybody I am new here name is Vikki.  I was diagnosed with Chiari just prior to Christmas and was wondering if anybody knew of a good neuro that knows about Chiari in Melboirne , Australia?  I have had symptoms all my life.  It only got diagnosed because my entire left side went numb and they thought I had a stroke so a CT and 2 MRI later CHIARI 1MALFORMATION!  Of course they didn't take my history so told me it was nothing and sent me home with a diagnosis of maybe it was a virus! Apparently this is quite common especially in Australia, so any input would be most welcome. Thank god my GP knew more about it than the arrogant neuro at the hospital.  Look forward to your comments.  vikki

Thanks heaps I have seen a few diff support groups but this one seems more upbeat and positive which is nice :-)

  Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

We did start a list of Drs for ur corner of the world...it is by no means a large list as drs names r added by the members....and we do not get as many from down under, but we r trying to keep a list to help...and I also do not know if ne of the Drs r in ur area, u may have to travel to get to a dr that not only knows what chiari is, but is experienced in working with it too.

The list is not a referral, but a means to help u research Drs.

Finding a Dr is a good part of this journey. getting the Dx can be the hard part...so, u r over a good portion of the hump....keep pushing forward.

And just bcuz we r not on ur continent doesn't mean we can't be a sounding board....know u r not alone : )
