Anyone have insomnia with chiari 1?

I have been suffering from daily pressure headaches for over a year now.  I now have new symptoms related to insomnia.  It is weird, when I am trying to go to sleep, I get a hypnic jerk reflex.  This happens 5 or 6 times and then my body just gives up on sleep and I usually average 3 hours of sleep per night.  It is awful. My doctor prescribed ambien and that is helping a little bit (I can usually get 5-6 hours on it).  Just wondering if anyone else has this symptom.  In addition to this symptom, I also feel as though my skin is "crawling", severe itchiness all over my body at night mostly, but also during the day.  This is also a new symptom.  I am afraid that I am having seizures or something (or maybe sleep apnea).  Getting a sleep study done soon.  Also, trying to get my neurologist to approve a CINE MRI and get a referral from my PCM to see Dr. Trumble in Orlando.

Sleep. I think about it all day long, and at night I think about everything but sleep. It's great that you are having a sleep study - to check for sleep apnea? In her response to your post above, Selma mentioned antihistamines before bed. Those are also working for me. Are you able to rest at all during he daytime? Do you catch up on weekends?i I listen to a lot of ocean wave sounds to wind myself down. You can search for any sound that you think is soothing on youtube. I also like wind sounds

Hi yes, lack of sleep is a big issue for ALL of us...and insomnia is one that can follow us even after surgery...

One recent study has  stated that many of us have too much histamines....now many also have GERD issues as well....I have always had that issue and found the main meds PPI's like prilosec did not help so I was put on another GERD med which is a H2blocker...a Histamine blocker...hmmm....

So I was having sleep issues and a lot of PND which can also lead to GERD issues so my DX RX'd I take an antihistamine b4 bed....and I am sleeping sooooooo much better and my reflux issues are better as well...

Mast cell disease* is something many of us do not think to have investigated but we should as it can be connected.

I mention the MCD* bcuz soooooooo many of us do have Ehlers-Danlos and MCD* is also involved with the connective tissues.....

Good luck with the sleep study.
