Anyone heard of Cuong Bui at Ochsner

Hi all,  well my raising a huge stink and writing a small novel to the insurance and demanding it be placed in my medical records seems to have helped. That and the fact I asked for an insurance case manager. Now I am in a pickle. I have been approved to see Dr Hampf in Nashville who is Shane and several others NS. that is wonderful news.  However as I live on the Gulf of Mexico in MS that is a very long distance to try to make not only for the initial visit but for follow ups and treatment. However we are willing to do what we have to do to make this happen. Within an hour of winning the battle. I was contancted and told there was a  renowned Chiari expert about 1 1/2 hours from my house at Ochsners his name is Dr Cuong Bui, he is in my network, and he according to my insurance he has published works on chiari and tethered cord and syrnix.  He is listed as a pediatric NS but practices both. he is listed as a specialist. I can't find him on rate your md or anything on him on google. I have to give my insurance an answer. give up on Hampf who I have battled for and who has come so highly recommended but would come at great expense to my family or gamble on the close guy who would be more convenient to my family, and free that I know nothing about. words of wisdom from those who i trust. thanks guys. My full spinal and repeat head mri's along with CINE mri's are set for July 2. after that I should be getting to meet whoever my Chiari specialist is and will know after 6 years what is up with me.

As always the support here found with my fellow chiarians is remarkable. I also want to comment on the level of respect shown. many of you chose to send me a private comment sharing your personal thought and opinion rather than to post anything that might in some way be taken as disrepectful to a doctor you may not have heard of. Wow, after all we have all been thru to be able to find it within you to hold thier positions in such high regards shows the caliber of people you are. I am proud to have sudo "met" all of you.  I have to let you know that my letter did apparently make a differance as, I said I had a choice to make. My DH and I looked and could find nothing but an impressive bio on the local guy, and it was impressive. He has written a couple of papers, but nothing else, not so say he isn't wow, gee whiz knock your socks off wonderful. I am sure he either is, or will one day be. But my daughter in college summed it up best, when he said his bio looked like hers, skipping dates and experience for colleges and papers. I have to go with the guy who I know people he has worked on. I have spoken with at least 3 people Dr Hampf has worked with with Chiari. High regards from all. I have spoken with his office. Even his secretary knew what she was doing more than the local NS. This isn't a broken bone, or an ingrown toenail. this isn't a re-do type situation. I don't want to put my family out financially or emotionally but I don't want to be around mentally and physically so I am going with Hampf. Thanks for your responses on here and privately. Please to anyone out there battling insurance and Dr's write a letter, tell the entire story. Once the entire thing was in their face they had a really hard time not realizing what they were turning down. I go back to the original NL this friday to tell him how to maintain me until I see Hampf, my complete MRI tests are on July 9th, after that I go to Hampf. Thanks again.

I am totally thinking Shane's porch would suffice, my husband is tall but thin, and I will be fine in the hospital. Just kiddin, needed some levity. Yeah I have searched most of the day just can't find much, I guess I could cough up the $ and pay for it, but so far his stuff looks like the awesome college grad resume. I hate it, it would be wonderful if he had a ton of experience to go with all that "book learnin".  I will try calling tomorrow and see if I can find out how much actual hands on experience he has. As always thanks.

I agree u have to be comfortable with ur dr.....I know there r diff organizations that can help with the expense of traveling.....if u look at Health Pages and the page titled links....

Since u feel better with Shane's Dr, that might be the way to go.I am sure Shane can offer info on the best places to stay ect.....

Thanks so much, yeah his bio on the hospital site looks good, he is young, it shows no years at all for school or residencies.  but when you google or rate md him there is nothing except this page or a couple of papers he has written, seems like if he had done all that and was an expert like his bio says, surely someone would have written he did surgery on their kids or on them, or something, his name would appear somewhere other than on his own biography. I mean I have a pretty impressive biography too, as long as you dont research it anyone can look important. Maybe I am over thinking this, but it is my BRAIN afterall.
