Arthritis in surgery site

I had decompression surgery in November 2007, and until this year have done well. Since this summer I have had nausea, dizziness, bad taste in my mouth, and severe shoulder and neck pain again. Can arthritis set in after this type of surgery? My incision is 8 inches and long and was 2 inches deep. My exposed cerebelleum was covered with my own dura. Any comments from anyone?

Well, I do know we can have scar tissue form...and we can have related conditions like RA, Ehlers-Danlos,sleep apnea,and several others.

I doubt that the nausea and bad taste is  arthritis ....have u ever been dx'd with sinus issues or acid reflux?

And as for ur neck and shoulder pains I would ask what u have been active doing?We have to be careful post op as to what we do ....how we lift , how much etc....as chiari is not cured or fixed.....we can trigger it and the symptoms return.

May I ask when ur last MRI was to monitor ur chiari?

I had decompression surgery October 28, 2008 and YES arthritis can set in at your incession.  My NL said I have a significant amount of arthritis.  I have just recently started having problems again (pain in my neck, shoulders, back, etc) and I have recently gotten an MRI and waiting to go see my my NL for the results.  But he DID tell me when I went that the arthritis could be causing alot of my problems.  So- I am curious to see what the MRI said and see if there is any help for my new pain.  Good luck.
