Average Recovery Time

Average Recovery Time

Hi,
I finally got a date for my surgery. I'm having it on June 30th (unless I chicken out before then).
I'm sure I'll ask this question during my pre-op but I was wondering how long the surgery usually takes?
Also, what is the average recovery time in the hospital and then at home.  Some people say they couldn't drive for 2 months some longer.  I know it really depends on what happens in surgery but I'm just trying to get an idea of when I can be "almost normal".
Thanks to everyone!
Kim

Hi..congratulations on getting ur PFD scheduled!!

Since we r all diff u will get diff answers...we all may have a diff situation for the dr going in or finds after being in there....

We were told 3 to 4 hrs and mine was closer to 8!!

I was in the hospital 5 days...in ICU 2.5 days....I still can not drive and this month I will be 1 yr post op....I do have other issues and y the dr told me no driving....

From what I read and what my dr told me..... it can take up to 2 yrs to heal completely.......

U can read the journals here by clicking on the names/sign ons....to access the  profile page...

I know some have been released from the hospital in 2 days...and some that had to return for set backs....

I pray  all goes well ...ask if u have ne other questions!!

I had it easy compared to Selma...I was in ICU one night, surgery was on wednesday morning and I was home by friday night, I was back to work 4 weeks after my surgery and driving myself. I was off pain meds by then, but still had to take one every so often when I did too much. Everyone is different and my situation was not ideal...I may have taken an extra few weeks off if I could have. Just take your time!!! Good luck :)
