CSF BLOCKAGE

Hi all just wanted to ask a few questions about csf blockage and still getting my head around all this.

Is csf blocked by herniation?
Is csf blockage caused by syrinx?

Are there certain everyday activities that cause reduced flow and if so what are they.

Have read lists of things to avoid on both syrinx and chiari so are these the answers to this.

Its all so confusing I try and carry on as normal but am worried now that I may be doing things that are making me worse, when im in pain I try to ignore it and carry on, same with the headaches, but now am asking myself am I making myself worse??????????

Hi...ur activities can affect CSF if u have a blockage as it  is shown in a CINE MRI that the flow can pulsate with ur BP......so if ur BP is rapid, the CSF flow will pulsate rapidly....

The CSF can be blocked by both a herniation or a syrinx....but many times a syrinx is formed due to the CSF flow being compromised somewhere.

Ur activities can affect how u feel...so look at what u do, how much, ect...u may need to pull back a little so u can do some of the same things, just not all at once.

Selma has answered your question but I wish to add that Stress is a big problem and can cause your BP to get high and thus your CSF pressure will get high.

I wonder is there any symptoms that are only caused by a cfs blockage??  I mean the ringing and constant 'swooshy' feeling in my ears is getting worse and now it's like all the time and I seem to get some form of headache every time I wake up in the morning.

Headache & Papilledema (Eye problem) is one of the Main symptoms of raised CSF pressure. I get the "Swooshy" & tinnitus all the time and I know from talking to ppl here that it is common with CM......

CSF blockage can be a reason for numbness too, and the area that dams up the CSF puts pressure on the nerves there, so depending on the area of the blockage will determine where the nerves may lead to  and where u have numbness.

Thanks Selma and thanks Ray for you advice,  Have woken now for a long time with HA but recently am getting them when I lie down to sleep,  Dont really get cough HA but do get very off balanced when cough,sneeze,strain etc to point where i always fall to the left, and have for years and years now got disorientated,tunnel vision when out shopping in large supermarkets or towns, get very confused,balance awful,cog fog.

Oh I usually get HA when bending down, but cant explain my HA really they not bothersome,just there, can last 3-4 weeks at a time and feel more like pressure building in my head than pain as such, they always go from temple to temple.

The pain I have experienced recently has been side of legs from hip to back of knees, both legs, and awful, between shoulder blades and lower back, struggle getting straight from bending position and feels like my lower back could snap.

Wo this chiari really has something to answer too!!! hoping scans on 29th will determine blockage or not as if not what is causing my pain???????  I have huge pain threshold, labour of 1st dd 12hrs and did not take pain meds offered, had c-section and was up next day walking around,taking bath and tending to my baby, with just co codomol for pain relief!!!
