CT scan

Just found my CT scan results, I wanted to take a closer look at it.  Since I had the CT to look for a clogged sinus cavity.  I have an appt. with my general Dr. on the 18th of this month, where I will be demanding an MRI and referral to a specialist.  But the CT scan states no evidence of intracranial hemorrhage, ventricular system is normal in size and configuration, withough evidence of hydrocephalus.  No discrete parenchymal masses nor evidence of mass effect.  There is a slight inferior displacement of the cerebellar tonsils, suggesting a mild chiari 1 malformation.  No extra-axial blood or fluid collections are identified.  The visualized orbits, paranasal sinuses, mastoid air cells, scalp and skull are unremarkable.  It then states findings suggesting Mild Chiari 1 malformation.  I know I need the MRI to be able to officially have the diagnosis, was just wondering from all you other Chairians if my CT scan showed the above stated results, does this mean I probably dont have a CSF blockage?  well atleast not in my head right?  And the slight displacement, could that mean that it hasn't herniated yet?  All these medical terms are so confusing to me.  Can anyone help?

  HI...displacement is another way to say herniation, the tonsils r not where they should be....and do not take the mild as nething other than ur herniation is most likely 5mm or less...and that really does not indicate if it is MILD in my book...how it affects u and yr symptoms will indicate that.

This is also a sinus CT scan, not a CSF flow study...so this is not going to indicate if u have a CSF blockage.The fact it states no hydrochephalus does not mean no CSF obstruction either.....

  U need a CSF flow study also known as a CINE MRI this is like a movie in real time and they put a clip on ur finger to monitor ur BP to see if the flow pulsates with the BP....this will not show on a static MRI or CT.

  U deff want a true chiari specialist to review this for u...and they will want a MRI done of the brain w/wo contrast. a cervical spine MRI, a thoracic and lumbar spine MRI...these help rule out the formation of a syrinx and tethered cord.

And u want to rule out disk issues as well as ehlers-danlos, sleep apnea,  ....

As Selma stated.  Don't take the word mild lightly.  That is how they stated my and I couldn't hardly get through the day because I was in so much pain.  Please get all the test to find the answer's that you are looking for and I hope you have a good doctor that you can trust.
