Chiari surgery and bump under insicision

Hi guys! I'm Jasmine, 19 and was diagnosed with a 25mm chiari. So I'm new and tried to find an answer but couldn't. So I was diagnosed with chiari 4 months ago and had the surgery June 28th , so I'm a month post op now and I'm finally being lowered on my steroids and stopped fully today's units 7th, now I was wondering has anyone else gotten like this swollen soft like water spot but it'll get hard sometimes under there insicision like it'll come and go and it's gotten smaller but I'm worried and I don't wanna tell my doctor yet cuz these steroids ****** me up and I wanna continue to stay off of them now. It doesn't hurt at all and I'm not affected by it whatsoever I'm just curious if anyone else has gone through this and maybe might know what it is and if you do please reply

There are many Drs that do not test for related conditions like EDS and it can affect the outcome of the surgery.....especially those with a dura patch not made of their own tissues....

Since you have had other leaks and it is possible you have another one,I would have them look at the type of patch you have and if you have EDS.JMHO

So you do not know what kind of patch you have ?

Do you know did they rule out Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome?

The only thing i have been diagnosed with chiari malfmormation type 1 after years of weird shoulder shocking and numbness and pain with a 25 MM syrinx and fluid in my back, severe case from what they said. They never said i had anything else but thats after looking at my MRI's. Other than that i have nothing else from what i know im healthy as a horse lol

I did have a dura patch I had the more extensive surgery but I'm not sure what it is they never told me. I really hope it absorbs like I've had two leaks already from my stitches that I had to get fixed and I really don't want another surgery or anything.

A CSF leak can seal on it's own....the best thing to do is remain flat and hydrated....allow your body to heal....if you are very active I doubt this will heal on it's own.

If in time it does not absorb into your body you will have to go back to your Dr.

May I ask did you have a dura patch placed and if so what type is it?

Thank you so much for the reply!! should I be worried about this? Will it go away on its own or will the doctors say surgery or something to fix it. I really don't want surgery again the surgery itself plus two emergency room visits and recovery has just been ridiculous in itself.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

It sounds like you may have a pseudomeningocele - this forms when there is a CSF leak....steroids can help it but once the steroids are stopped it will be more apparent that the leak exists.

You should call your Dr asap as they will need to monitor this for you....they can not put you on steroids again depending on how long you have been on them already.
