Chiari with depression and decreased cognition

My 16 y/o daughter was diagnosed with CM I whenshe was 5. In the last couple of years it hasbecome increasingly more difficult for her to concentrate with her school work. Her anxiety and depression has also been an issue as well. 2 yrs ago she was told that he decreased senstions in her body were not caused from the Chiari but from the depression. We have since had her treated for her psych problems but the decreased sensations continue. She has also has various other symptoms that wax and wane. Has anyone else experienced waxing and waning of symptoms with CM?

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Chiari symptoms do cycle and flare...so it is possible to wax and wane as you said....and the time frame btwn  can be long or short bursts....and older symptoms may not return but new ones can form with each cycle or flare.....
Depression and anxiety ARE Chiari related..

Do find a true Chiari specialist to help not only with Chiari but ALL related conditions as well.

Hi and so sorry your young daughter has been going through this. I was also diagnosed with Chiari one Malformation. I just had my surgery March 30th and was just released from the hospital yesterday !
Before surgery my symptoms would definitely be on and off, especially the week before. I even questioned if I was doing the right thing having surgery because some days I felt fine then others I could not Feel my hands and I would just lay in bed all day with pain. So it is possible for her to have days like that.
Not sure if the decreased sensation she is feeling would be associated with depression. Is it more like numbness in her fingers , feet etc?? Any tingling? Also does she have the typical Chiari headaches ?
I would if possible find a Chiari specialist or a Ns that can look further into her condition for you. Best of luck !
