Chiati and Essential Tremor?

I am wondering if others who have been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation have also been previously diagnosed with Essential Tremor?  I have had Essential Tremor since I was 12 years old, diagnosed in my 30s and was just diagnosed with Chiari Malformation this year at 53 years old.  I also have IBS and have been loosely diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.  I am suspicious that the Chiari Malformation is the cause of all these other issues, as well as being hereditary.   Essential Tremor has been proven to be hereditary. My son now has it as well as IBS. We definitely need more research on Chiari as well as awareness and education for doctors.

A doctor, based on visual observation, gave me a diagnosis of Essential Tremor in my early 40s.   I am now 62 years old.  I have many other symptoms in addition, but my Chiari Malformation was not discovered/diagnosed until last year.

Can you tell me how your tremors affect you? ....And do you feel it is possible they are Chiari related?

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

I have not been DX'd with ET but do get tremors that come and go.....so I am sure not the same thing....but with Chiari anything can affect us due to having Chiari....
Chiari also comes with other related and non related  conditions that ALL must be looked at and ruled out.

I too have IBS, and was told I had fibro....my Chiari specialist  said it was not fibro but a related condition Ehlers-Danlos.

We are all different in how we are not only affected by Chiari but by what other conditions we are affected by in addition to Chiari.

Thank you for your response!  I am on the road to looking for a Chiari specialist as the doctors in my area know nothing about it.  The closest specialist to me is Milwaukee. Downstate Michigan is over 10 hours away from where I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  Milwaukee is 6 hours away.

The only Dr we have on our list is in Madison, WI.....not sure who you are considering going to....and if this Dr works out for you please add the info to our list.....
