Cine mri

I have read that most have a mri and a cine mri. Whats the difference? I only had a plain mri. And that was 6 month prior to my deompression. My tonsil herniation then was 14mm. Is it possible to have a syrinx butnot detected? And the dr did not shrink my tonsils, can they shrink on their own, or get worse? Also ive heard about the brain dropping more after surgery? I have so much going thru my head right now. Trying to figure my pressure in my head. Anyone have any info?! I dont see my ns til the 25th and I want to be prepared when I go.

  Hi...a CINE MRI is a flow study it is done with and without contrast and with a BP clip to monitor BP while the testing is done...this is a live movie of the CSF  movement...this allows Drs to see where an obstruction is.

  As for a syrinx, u would need a MRI of the cervical spine, thoracic spine and lumbar spine as a syrinx can form in ne of those areas...many Drs only check the  cervical spine for them.

Pressure can be PTC or pesudo tumor cerebri also known as inter cranial hypertension...this is not uncommon for those with chiari pre or post op.

Many drs choose to cauterize the tonsils to help them retract...how ever this does not mean they pop back up where they belong...this only shortens then a little , the lamenectomy of the C1 and C2 vertebra is usually where the Dr gets the additional room to allow the CSF to flow.... some NS's that r not as experienced  may chip away too much bone and this can lead to cerebral ptosis which is also known as brain slump.

If Sullivan did your surgery,  you would of had a cine mri prior to surgery, as it is his protocol. Then he does another after three months to make sure the surgery helped flow. I havent had surgery yet, but have already had cine mri. He requested it after initial appt.  Its done during ur regular mri.

Hey there. dr sullivan only ordered blood workup before my surgery and went off a mri of my head and neck only. And that was done 6 months prior by a different dr. he never ordered a mri nor a cine mri. Should I call tomorow and ask why?!

Wow, that is not like him!!! After my first visit he told me if i decided to have surgery...and wanted him to do it (he knew i was getting many opinions) that i would need to come back first and get an mri/cine.
He knew i didnt want surgery so i see him every six months and get mri's.
If i was u i would have called many times with how your feeling. Im sure he would want to see u. They are really good about getting back to you.

i called dr sullivans office this morning to find out what tests i am having on the 25th. it is a mri with csf flow study. is this the same as the cine mri, do u know?

Yes it is the same. Did u ask bout ur symptoms-?  I woulda asked to get in monday talk to him!
