Columbus (Ohio) Neurology and Neurosurgeons

Has anyone had any experience with Columbus Neurology and Neurosurgery (specifically Drs. Carroll, Klatte, or Simensky).  Not sure what my eventual diagnosis will be, but you've all been helpful so far, so I thought I'd post here.

If you have suggestions about any others, I'd love to hear of them....the only caveat is they need to be covered under OSU insurance!

I did find out that Dr. Xiao Di (Cleveland Clinic) is covered under my insurance--and it sounds like the 2 hour drive would be worth it to get a referral for him in terms of the low-lying cerebellar tonsils....if they are low-lying, does that mean it is Chiari?  Or does it have to be determined that there is compression to use the "Chiari" name?

Thanks,
Kim

Dr Di would absolutely have been worth the Drive. However, he has not been there since around late 2010. See my next post

Hi Lisatracey1 and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Do you have Chiari as well?

Again, I can't comment on the doctors except to say that I have heard some really good reviews from others on this site...so it looks like DR. Di would be worth the drive!

As far as I know, low-lying tonsills is Chiari...sometimes I guess they just don't use the name on the scans. But when my NS said that I had low-lying tonsills...and I asked more about it, then he said it is called Chiari malformation. That was before he conferred with the other surgeon and evaluated the CSF blockage.

So you are moving in the right direction!

Hi Kim...several members here have been to Dr Di.....chiari is a malformation of the cerebellum and it can cause a herniation of the tonsils....so low lying indicates a issue.....but the amount of herniation is not the main problem...it is if u have a CSF blockage and overcrowding...and then quality of life factors in.....

I hope that helps : )

BTW- many of us do have to travel to get to a true chiari specialist...be sure to research all drs and u may want to meet with at least 2 to find the dr that u r comfortable with.
