Could leaving my tonsils continue my chiari symptoms

I continue  to have symptoms  after decompression  surgery. My voice hasn't  been the same for over a year so frustrating. My headaches are debilitating  as well as the choking  on my own saliva numb tingling hand etc etc. My surgeon  left my tonsils alone only made more space placed a bovine patch and c-1 laminectomy. In February  of this year I  went back in for a shunt ended up with c5 and c6 fused. I was in ICU for 5 days draining 10th every hour of cfs fluid following  my decompression   surgery. Does anyone  think my tonsils  are causing  my increased symptoms  a d health  issues? Thanks for any replies

What degree is your scoliosis? Many with EDS tend to have that  as well...I was told I have mild scoliosis...not sure of the degree....but if it is severe they do give it a degree as to how far it is shifted.....

Tethered Cord also can cause scoliosis, which I also have.....

Vent, complain, moan...what ever helps you feel better that is why this forum is here.

Do let me know what you find out.

My surgery was one year ago on September  9, 2014. I haven't  been tested for Ehlers  Dan Los now that you brought  it  to  my attention  and how it's   over looked  I  will get tested. I do have scoliosis  from birth, my hip dislocates, a knee surgery because it was too loose. Several other issues  that might be related. My neurosurgeon  seems to be at a loss for me he isn't a Chiari  specialist and I get the feeling he doesn't  realize  how crazy my symptoms  are from day to day. I'm existing  not living. I need help and all the advice anyone can give me. Thanks for replying  I  hate to complain or throw my problems  out there I  just don't  know  what  to  do. I feel  like  giving   up at times but that's  not  an option. My sincere thanks!

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

I do not think it is the tonsils as I have mine they were cauterized, and they shrank a little but still there.....it can take time b4 symptoms go away or get somewhat better.....how long since your initial surgery?

Did they rule out Ehlers-Danlos? We can reject the dura patch if we have EDS and our bodies make CSF to flush away the foreign material....so it is best for those with EDS to have their own tissue harvested for the dura patch.

This is JMHO and it is from 8 yrs of seeing all the members go thru this and it is always an EDS DX that was missed b4 surgery.....
