Decompression surgery failing

My husband had chiari malformation decompression surgery. Sept 29 2014.  He was doing great, then began puking daily two weeks ago. Is dizzy again and does nothing again but play a few games on computer and sleep.
Went to see his NS here in Kingston, Ontario and he said surgery was a success so has to be the weather.  How EGO gets in the way.  He says success with no follow up MRI.   Thanks.

I think your responders above are correct when they advise you to ask the NS to document his current opinion. Be safe and keep copies of everything. S_Chaney makes a great point about how that question will have a definite effect on what the doctor says. Asking him this question will certainly show him that you and your husband are knowledgeable about making decisions about how to proceed with your husband's course of care. Bamagirl's advice to get a second opinion is also wise; your husband's brain health is a critical issue. It is so sad when doctors' arrogance override a patient's health. I wish you both well and I hope you begin to get more respectful consideration from someone to whom you are paying a lot of money.

I would get a second opinion. From what I read, CSF Leak is extremely dangerous and if there is a leak, then bacteria could get in causing some form of meningitis!!! Definitely get a second opinion who has knowledge of CSF leak and Chiari.

I hope he feels better really soon.

With a CSF leak one would feel worse when upright....the longer you are up the worse you feel and it leads to vomiting....I had a leak and know how awful it can be.

Kingston?...sorry no.

Just tell them he had surgery and no has the flu or something and is very sick...they may do testing to see if it is the flu or just help him get over the vomiting and make sure he does not dehydrate.

Oh I have chatted with you before.   Are you a kingston girl.. Sorry I was researching.
Jim had a dura patch from his own head. He does not do great upright ,, I have no idea if he has a leak. The NS told him it is just the weather.
I am desperate to find a new NS. Ideas of how to get the surgeon to talk and feel compassion.
He simply told us surgery was a success. So must be the weather. How can a surgeon say that without investigating first. Arrogance.
Jim has two sprinx but he did not even remember. How do I get a Doctor in kingston to explain sprinx when this one brushes it off.

Ask the NS to please document this success and to provide you with a copy of all medical records, including the current complaints and his "professional" opinion.

When he asks why, just say your attorney asked for them.

I bet his stance changes dramatically and quickly =)

Hi I am so sorry to hear your DH is not doing well post op.

May I ask what he was doing post op when he was feeling better?

Does he feel worse when upright? It is possible he has a CSF leak....and should be seen....not all Drs will do a post op MRI at this point I had mine at 1 yr post op...but when there are issues a MRI is a way to figure things out.

Did your DH have a dura patch placed, if so what type is it?
