Deviated Septum?

I remember that someone had posted that thu had surgery for a deviated septum.
My DH is scheduled for this surgery in Monday, 10/1, and I am wondering what to expect as far as recovery.
I've heard up to a week of not doing anything then I have heard within a day r two u r fine.
My ex husband had this surgery done but also had more stuff done (his sinuses were punctured and drained because they were so filled) and I was thinking he was back to work (he was a truck driver) in like 3 days...
Just wanted to maybe hear from someone who had it done to hear how they did. My DH has no other health problems and is in good physical health.
Thank u!!!

I had that done at 21 years old. I'm not sure if I ever mentioned it, though. I had my sinuses scraped out as well as my adenoids and tonsils taken out! I never felt any pain my my nose or face because I just felt the adenoid/tonsillectomy pain. I always bumped my nose or face and never felt anything, but I may be a rare breed! ;)

My sister had just the deviated septum repair and she complained of pain. But she freaks out over a paper-cut! LOL She took it easy for a week, but she did not have packing. If you have packing, that is a bit more painful.

Expect to have foods that are non- acidic and not peppery. I'm not sure why that bothered her so much. She also stuck with soups. No bending for a while. Have ice handy to control the swelling and prop pillows so he won't sleep flat.
Good luck to y'all!!!

I hope it goes well.

What brings a deviated septum to the point for surgery?  I was dx'd w/it just this year, which I thought was very weird to discover at 60!

At 3 yrs post op y DH confessed to how awful it was waiting as well...he thought something went horribly wrong as he was told 3 to 4 hrs and it was going on 7.5 when the Drs finally came out to talk to him....he thought I died...he never told me this b4...as he said he didn't want to upset me...I said now it makes sense as to how over protective he had been...he would not leave ICU...it was 1130 pm and he had to work the next day....when it comes to his health issues he never tells me when he is having one...

If it is ok with u , I can post a prayer thread for ur DH.....

And add u to be able to get thru the stress of the waiting : )

Hang in there : )

Thanks Selma...he usually does pretty well and generally has a pretty high tolerance for pain (well as much as a dude can anyway...lol).
My ex was a WOOSE when it came to pain but was super sensitive to medication (anesthesia) so mainly he had some lingering effects from that for a few days.
My DH has had oral surgery where they have put him completely out and besides being sore from surgery and obviously the pain in his mouth. He was back to normal by the time I was home from work that night(I know it sounds bad that I didn't take him to surgery, but it was at the dentist and his mom happened to be in town and offered and I decided to work and my DH was perfectly ok with the arrangement).
Just seeing that it is his nose and that he will be under different anesthesia (gas verses just a shot of meds @ dentist) I am wondering how much he will need to be 'babied'. LOL!!!
Like u said, everyone is so different.
Thank you for the well wishes in his surgery, I will pass them in to him and I will definitely let u know how it goes.
Knowing me, I will have a harder time while he is in surgery than he will...as with my surgery for Chiari, he spent the entire time crying (I was SHOCKED when he told me because he never said anything to me about being worried or scared or nervous) while I snoozed away and they sawed into my head!!! Always harder for the one waiting in the waiting room!!! I'm a worry wart so that doesnt help either!!

I recall reading about that recently too, not sure who said it tho....but keep in mind, like with Chiari we r all diff and who knows what they will find when they get in there...and recovery is also up to what type of person he is and how he handles pain....if not well it may take him longer...

I wish him well with this upcoming surgery!
