Diamox?

My NS prescribed Diamox today, but when I went to pick it up I was told that it's not covered by my insurance (cost is $95). Has anyone had any luck getting Diamox covered by insurance? Or, does anyone know of a comparable med?

Also, I'd be interested to know if people have had much relief from Diamox, or if you know of any side effects I should be especially alert to. FYI - I'm about 5 months post op from my 4th surgery, had a clear MRI today, and have had a headache for about 3 weeks.

Thanks!
Claire

Yes, my NS is concerned that I may have raised ICP. He wants me to try the Diamox for a few weeks to see if my headache improves. He is also having me see an opthamologist to make sure I don't have papilledema (optic disc swelling) that can go along with raised ICP.

Hi....I have never had the need for this med, but it is a diuretic to help reduce the pressure from excess CSF...did ur Drs say they feel u may have ICP?

I would ask ur pharmacist as to a comparable med covered by ur ins...they should know and be able to help u, they can even call ur Dr to have the RX changed.
