Do steroids help your Chiari symptoms?

Has anyone found that steroids reduced the severity of some of your Chiari symptoms?  My PCP gave me a round of steroids and I have felt better than I have in a long time (not perfect, but better).  However, I also had a fairly bad MVA and am not sure if it is helping symptoms from that or Chiari.

My husband and I got sick the day we were scheduled to fly to England for my two-week study abroad.  We both got a shot of steroids and antibiotics, as well as 10-day prescriptions for each. I have not been as active and able to "push through," with such reduced pain sincebefore my MVA and diagnosis!! I thought it was the cooler weather, but I just finished physical therapy and the therapist asked if I had tried steroids and I said no. Then I remembered the trip and the therapist believes the relief was from the steroids. I'm happy to see others have had relief, too, but I wish we could achieve it more regularly! PT was not helpful, unfortunately, so I'm back to just pushing through the days.

I wish you all the best! Let us know how your appt goes :)

I had the steroids injections on both sides of my neck followed my surgery.  The injections helped to release the discomfort but it wasn't permanent relief.  I have been in medications to continue help with the headaches & discomfort. Hopes u find a relief sooner!

I had steroids orally after surgery and it does give some relief.  Wish you the best on your visit on Tues.   Best of luck.

The steroids were oral and, yes, my doctor said it was just a patch to get me through. My symptoms didn't go away, but I can function, which is a huge blessing. I have an appointment with a NS on Tuesday so maybe we will have a clearer path forward after that.

Hi...is this oral or injections?....I know some have had relief, but it  is short lived as u can only be on steroids for so long.....

I hope it has reduced the inflammation long enuff for u to relax and feel better.....this may also allow other meds to keep a control on it.

   Good luck
