Does anyone feel normal after Surgery

So I was just wondering has anyone felt 100% better and stayed that way after sugery? It seems like i keep reading about problems people are having and how they are not doing better now. Makes me a little nervous

My surgeon told me when we scheduled that the best outcome would be a gradual relief of my symptoms and a good outcome would be stopping the progression of symptoms. It is important to have reasonable expectations from your surgery. You will not be doing cartwheels through the hospital halls, but you may realize an improvement in your quality of life.

So true thanks for your comment on expectations of the surgery....if you go n expecting miracles then you will be grossly disappointed....

But if  you go in with reasonable expectations then you should have a very good outcome.....

I too went in with the expectations of - slowing progression, and helping preventing a syrinx from forming and hopefully calming down a few of my symptoms.

I am well pleased with my outcome...I knew I was a slow healer b4 surgery so I was a little more patient with how long recovery took for me....

We need to have our expectations in check as well as a good dose of patience.

How astute of you to ask that question!  Selma's answers are right on & I cannot add anything more to what she says except:  Keep your expectations reasonable and  in line with what you hear from trusted sources.  We are all different in our responses to any trauma or stress on our bodies.  Age, overall health, comorbidities, etc., have deep impact on recovery.
The recovery has not been what I expected, but my "expects" were not reasonable.  I am so thankful I had the surgery and am finding my new normal as time goes on.

Hi...I did feel great post op...but I now know it was the meds...but I was feeling much better then I had prior to surgery.....but it can take time and we can cause symptoms to flare by doing too much too soon.

Nerves can take up to 2 yrs to heal fully and just bcuz the incision site is healed does not mean we are...in fact healing is just beginning....

As we heal some symptoms will return as the nerves begin to come back  to life after being compressed and some symptoms may be new as they can cause us to be over sensitive to noise, lights, and too much movement around us (people).....

We also go thru may emotions we can get angry easily, cry for no apparent reason, and even deal with depression....but it is "normal"..and should not last long.

Most that have postop issues 1- over did it post op 2- had an underlying condition they were not aware of 3- surgery failed
