Drop Attack Question

by ChiariWolf, Aug 09, 2009 10:19PM
When you have a drop attack, has anyone ever told you that while you where down you had no pulse? Is this a normal thing with a drop attack?

that was my question to him. Told him while in the hospital back in June they noted it bp dropped to 55/?? at one point so maybe he just couldn't find it. He said no it wasn't there and is also a trained EMT. Doesn't mean he is perfect but it does have me wondering. I may look around and see what a bp cuff would cost, have to be electronic as I don't know how to read one.

SOunds like an idea...I have one....my BP was always on the low side....my dr would always say call if u get symptomatic....I had no idea what that would be....lol.....they assume too much.

But I always had low BP and wonder if it is common with chiarians?

How often do u have a dropp attack?

good question! Back in June it was nearly daily. But I was walking then. I've not been walking much and that seems to help. DA have been much less often. However this week has been horrendeous. Between Thursday, Fri and Today alone there have been 8 that I can recall and all have been while sitting.

BTW- as to BP it has been low my whole life. Have had 53 surgeries in all couldn't tell you how many times they've had to do a double take as the nurse or doc wanted to make sure I was still with them. Ha serves em right for being quacks!

That has changed just since the fall this winter. Since then it's bouncing from 55/?? up to 158/120. Mine has never EVER been over 111 on the high number but my PCP just said "oh it's just because of the elevated pain levels" I told him no it's not. I've had much worse pain numerous times and never had my body respond like that he said "yes but your getting older" my response... well he doesn't know yet but once we are though this my wife and I have agreed he'll get his severance letter.

You might have autonomic dysfunction. Common in chiari and eds.

I have always had low bp too, but not this low. it is autonomic dysfunction when your bp and heart rate  drop or become suddenly high, most have profuse sweating along with this , I forget which cranial nerve this is from however, you need to get a new doctor if they are not listening to what you are saying, this could mean your life. also monitor your blood pressure daily, I don;t mean at the drugstore either those are not always accurate. I would invest in a good one it is well worth it when your life is at stake.
good luck!!!

Thank You both... I think. We'll have to look those up and see what they are. Actually I have been sweating like a pig. Not normal for me until a few mos ago. Since this started my head, chest and right arm have been sweating non stop at times especially when laying down. Doesn't matter if I cover up or not. Then yesterday when I had this drop attack ephisode it was maybe 10 mins or so later I'm sitting there in a suit jacket, long sleeve shirt [normally I'd have been hot] and was uncontrollably shaking I was so cold. Does that sound like what your talking about? I'll have to go these things up, I have read some about autonomic dysfunction but not so much as to really understand what it is. EDS don't even know what it stands for but thank you for the input.

It is possible to have Autonomic Dysfunction.....usually a tilt table test is done...and with all ur passing out and drop attacks u might want to look into that.

They did run that test back in June. It came up negative.

hmmmmmm, well u have me stumped.

I would say u have another issue going on in addition to ur chiari......not being a dr, it is hard to say.....and I have not come accross this b4 in my reading.

I pray u get answers soon and share what is going on with us.

Get it done again with a specialist for autonomic disorders. There are other autonomic testings too. I think the leaders from dysautomia community are in the hospital. The health pages are good there though. Eds is ehlers danlos. Hope that helps.

by selmaS, Aug 12, 2009 09:04AM
FYI-

The Heath Pages are shared btwn chiari malformation and the  Autonomic Dysfunction forum. So u can locate the same pages from either forum.

Yes both CL's there r sick.....I pray they r back soon.
