Dry needling

Has anyone here tried dry needling for the shoulder and neck pain related to CM?

If so what were your results.

So glad this is helping u.....I wonder if being post op has an effect on this technique?

How many more sessions will they do? Just curious if there is a set number or if it depends on an individual.

Enough so to continue, yes. Some days frankly it's a real pain in the neck 'literally' speaking. During the procedure it's not bad. Some days though my neck and shoulder will go into really bad cramps after.... But.... It seems the day after I do feel looser. In fact I have markable improvement in neck rotation. I can turn far enough to see traffic while merging for the first time in years. Can raise my shoulder most of the way up again and can carry my laptop with right arm without pain, tight but no pain.

So yes, it does seem to be helping. Not going to lie it does hurt when they hit the tight spots. Low back the needles actually bend at times it's so tight. Those you definitely feel..... Yeah, feel we'll say. But the results..... Jury is still out but it does seem this may be an answer.

It varies depending on how I'm feeling that day. Avg I'd say between 30-50 per session

Approx how many needles are used? I'm highly afraid of them even butterfly needles. Idk why I have a fear of them I just do. I can stick them in myself I just can't have others do it. But I will try anything as long as it doesn't involve more pills. I'm done with the pills. Thanks for the info.

Well it appears this poll was a bust. Perhaps not many have heard of it as I hadn't before. So here goes:

My first treatment [the reason I posted this to begin with] seemed to trigger 'extreme anxiety' and as selma knows we have enough of that around here. :-) No, seriously it was like the anxiety I had directly prior to the decompression. Totally out of control anxiety.

Second treatment, just felt weird, no anxiety issues just felt weird and tired all day. Not much of a description but weird is the only words I can think of to describe it.

Now I've had my third treatment. I can't say that it's understood why by me because it's not, but the muscles in my neck and shoulder area that have been tight for ... wow have no idea how many years... are still sore and fairly tight but I've do have a noticeable mobility improvement in them. And I frankly just feel better, tired but better all over.

A fluke? From the dry needling? Time will tell, I just thought about bringing it here as most Dr's want to throw meds at us that frankly doesn't work and they know it. But it's all they have to offer. My new pain Dr [many other issues aside from CM so pain Dr] suggested this as Insurance pays for this whilst the do not pay for acupuncture. He, the Dr, claims he has seen very good results with this treatment.

I've had two treatments now. Interesting..... Guess that's the word I'd use. It does seem to have some calming effect on the tight muscles. Thus far can't really say if it has helped or not.... Back later this week we'll try again.

Hi Wolf, I have started this today for my neck and I know it is a bit early to say if it is a success but it has helped my pain. I feel sore and a little stiff but ok.
I dont know how much is down to endorphin's!

Well to me it appears much like acupuncture. However, theories supposedly are different.... Rather than saying they are aligning your Chi, they say they are stimulating trigger points for your brain to react with healing cells. Their explanation was or sounded as if they were spending all their energy to convince us that it's not acupuncture (because currently a trained PT can do this and be paid by insurance).   I'll hold off my comments so as not to influence any other posters.
