Dry painful face

I recently found out that I have Chiari Malformation.  Does anyone with this condition experience very dry face skin and face pain as well as mouth and eye dryness?  My mouth is so dry I experience a burning sensation of the tongue.  My face is so dry it hurts - tried all kinds of creams and it only makes my face skin feel tighter.  Did having the operation make this dry skin condition go away.  Any recommendations on a good surgeon or type of operation - I live in Pittsburgh, Pa

A true Chiari Dr is one that only treats Chiari and Chiari related conditions and also researches...Chiari...they will look for and rule out ALL related conditions to make sure to take precautions to help prevent as many post op set backs as possible.

We have info in the Health Pages and just ask as many of us here may be able to answer ur questions.

I appreciate your input - I will browse this website to see what you mean by a true Chiari Center - I thought I was at one but maybe not...  I am really frustrated by the pain and am desperate for answers - I have seen one dr in Pittsburgh as well as at John's Hopkins - both had different ways of operating - I was told I was a candidate for surgery based on the lack of CSF flow - I also have spinal stenosis - no other problems with the spine - which doesn't appear that will surface - not sure - The head and face pain and being really tired is getting too difficult to deal.

AS long as u have a true Chiari specialist.....and that Dr rules out ALL related conditions b4 surgery that helps in many out comes....

My surgery was 4 yrs ago today....and it was worth it to me, I went to a Chiari center....and I saw a few Drs and compared them.....

Talk with ur Drs as to how they feel u would benefit from surgery.

Thanks for the information.  I was recently diagnosed with Sjogren's which the rheumatologist believes is causing the face pain, but the medication is not helping.  I did visit John's Hopkins and liked the dr. (many internet posts say they are the best for this condition) I don't have any CSF on the back side of the tonsils - It is my decision on the surgery - no guarantees -and have researched that the success is 80/20 - I am really thinking about the surgery as I am in bed almost all weekend because of the pain - I start out the week tolerate of the pain but by Friday can't take it anymore.  Just wondering if the surgery is worth it

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

It is possible that u have another issue like Hahsimoto's thyroiditis, it can cause dry skin and many with Chiari do have this as we are prone to auto immune and connective tissue disorders....

We do not refer or endorse Drs, but we do have a list compiled of the Drs the members here have been to and liked....the list is for u to use as a tool to research Drs...visit a few , compare them...and make sure u educate urself so u will know which Dr is best for u.

There is a Dr in Pittsburg...a Dr Bejjani....and there a few in Ohio...I can not recall  names...do look at the list in the Health Pages.
