I recently started having migraines and dizzy spells. I went to a neurologist for an MRI. The test results show an elongated cerebellum. My neurologist said this could be causing my symptoms and is referring me to a neurosurgeon. What causes an elongated cerebellum? Are their medicines to rectify this? Is there a surgical solution?
May I ask, is this what u remember or do u have a copy of the report?
Chiari is a mis shaped skull which forces the cerebellum down onto the spinal cord...the pressure on the brain stem can cause all types of symptoms including dizziness....the elongated cerebellum or cerebral tonsils can also be attributed to excess CSF which can push the tonsils out...or tethered cord...by the attachment of the cord it pulls down on the brainstem...and pulls down the tonsils.
This condition is most times a congenital condition which there is no cure for, only treatment to help prevent a syrinx to help avoid perm nerve damage and slow the progression of the condition.
