Everything goes black.

I was wondering if this happens to anyone else. It started very occasionally, the first time being years ago, but has been happening more and more. Sometimes everything goes black and I can't see anything for probably about 20seconds. I don't pass out. I am conscious and know that I can't see, but I can still hear and move and stuff. It is starting to freak me out and I am scared it might happen when I drive. My PCP said it was probably nothing but I don't trust him, because he also says my chiari doesn't cause my headaches and that they are migraines but act nothing like a migraine.

I actually have syncope. I pass out 3-8 times a month it has become a common occurrence in my household. I no longer go to the er because they never do anything. These episodes seem to be different than the passing out.

YES !! That has been happening to me for years, and most of the time along with the blackness and the sweat, I lose hearing~ it's not that I can not hear anything, but that anything I can hear is very muffled and confused sounding. None of my doctors have ever considered it a problem, and have always attributed it to my anemia...though after the past two years and learning more about Chiari, I have begun to realize, that most likey the chiari is responsible in some fashion. It really does stink...I dont have a choice ...I have to drive on a daily basis to pick up and drop off my kids at school, and every time I get in the car, It seems that I am terrified it may happen. Keep us posted, and heres to hoping you get some answers soon.

Yes! This has been happening to me for years. In fact, I am sure it's the basis for my epilepsy diagnosis. (Something that I am no longer convinced of.)

When I have this it goes black veerrryyyy slowly. I also break out into a sweat. The last time it happened was about a year ago. I was pregnant. My OB told me it was vasovagal syncope. I went home and looked it up. Seems that it is commonly misdiagnosed as epilepsy. Also, syncope is a common symptom of Chiari malformation.

It's VERY scary! My blood pressure drops, too. You might want to research syncope and see if that describes what you are experiencing.
