FYI : floaters

I went to the eye doc since my nuero weenie said this was nothing.  And found out something interesting.    The floaters are broken cells caused from pressure or trauma.  They will eventually be ignored by the brain.  But that isn't to say more won't break off.   But at last a good explanation for the conect the dot vision.   : ).

Thanks for the info, lu7997.  I have floaters, too, but my eye doctor (nor my wimp of a neurologist) didn't give me an explanation for them.  Thanks for sharing.  Take care.

Floaters are very common not just with CM and are not a cause for concern according to my NS.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Floaters are essentially changeless, and the most prominent continue to be seen in the field of vision for a lifetime.[5] They are not uncommon, and do not cause serious problems for most people; they represent one of the most common presentations to hospital eye services. A survey of optometrists in 2002 suggested that an average of 14 patients per month per optometrist presented with symptoms of floaters in the UK alone.[6] However, floaters are more than a nuisance and a distraction to those with severe cases, especially if the spots seem to constantly drift through the field of vision. The shapes are shadows projected onto the retina by tiny structures of protein or other cell debris discarded over the years and trapped in the vitreous humour. Floaters can even be seen when the eyes are closed on especially bright days, when sufficient light penetrates the eyelids to cast the shadows. It is not, however, only elderly people who suffer from floaters; they can certainly become a problem to younger people, especially if they are myopic. They are also common after cataract operations or after trauma. In some cases, floaters are congenital.[7]
Floaters are able to catch and refract light in ways that somewhat blur vision temporarily until the floater moves to a different area. Often they trick the sufferer into thinking they see something out of the corner of their eye that really is not there. Most sufferers, with time, learn to ignore their floaters. For people with severe floaters it is nearly impossible to completely ignore the large masses that constantly stay within almost direct view. Some sufferers have noted a decrease in ability to concentrate while reading, watching television, walking outdoors, and driving, especially when tired.

I have floaters and it's true you kind of ignore them after a while- but it does bother me at times when I am driving- so I  just try to "look" a different way.

I know I've had two Ophthalmologists tell me they are no big deal...they can see them floating there but aren't worried about them. The thing is I never had any b4 and they came on suddenly and right b4 all my other symptoms came crashing down..Seems too coincidental for me...it sounds like a good explanation that they could be the result of the pressure.

Hi Carolyn, I dont ever remember having floaters before all this started raising it ugly head, I do think they are more frequent when my head "feel full" or  when standing up fast, so I think the pressure plays it's part. They are very freaky when they happen at first....

Hi Ray...yeah it really freaked me out when it started. I was actually in class and having trouble writing an exam because they were swimming across my page. This was after I had been experiencing all the "head stuff" and the weakness in my arm...no one was listening to me at that time..so the floaters just made me even more nervous.

Mine are definitely worse when there is light...like fluorescent lighting..looking at a computer screen..being out at the beach. I just wear sunglasses everywhere..sometimes even in the grocery store!

Did you notice that you got "sparklies" around the same time as the floaters? I noticed when looking at my instructor there was this haze of light distortion around her and then when I go outside...I will see these sparklies everywhere..truly weird and I have still got no explanation why..

Hope the sun is shining in Ireland (but wear your sunglasses..lol..)
