HELP!! Chiari and cough!!

I was fine yesterday and woke up this am with such a sore throat! It's on fire! I've been coughing quite a bit today also which about puts me into tears! I really think my head will explode if I cough one more time! :(

But here's where I'm worried and looking for advice.... I try not to cough bc it hurts so dang much BUT... I thought I read somewhere (thinking this forum) that coughing makes things worse?? Like raises the csf pressure or whatever? Well I have crowding and some blockage... No syrinx but I'm worried if all this coughing may cause a syrinx or make things worse besides just the hard sharp pounding that occurs after every cough?!??

Also... Will trying not to cough and holding it in am I setting myself up to be more apt to develop pneumonia?

I don't want to cough bc it hurts so bad but then again I'm afraid I'll get more sick letting it settle and not tring to cough? Help! It hurts! Makes my whole body hurt! Besides headnpounding ...everytime I cough my right arm hurts pretty bad afterwards????

I have not heard that coughing will affect CSF pressure...just cause a nasty HA...not a syrinx either...a syrinx is caused by a blockage of fluid and usually forms over a period of time.

Cough if u need to...especially if it is cold related...and take something to help clear it up.

Try shower soothers....u place a disk in the shower and the vapors fill the air with the steam...helps clear u up.But u need an expectorant.....

If ur cough is GERD related....avoid dairy...and foods that cause more mucus to form...citrus etc.......and elevate the head of ur bed.
