Head Rushes

Head Rushes

I'm having major head rushes whenever I stand up, well I guess that's what it is. They've only started in the past few weeks but as soon as I stand up from sitting or lying down my head goes very fuzzy, dizzy and I feel like I'm going to collapse and I have to immediately grab onto something or sort of bend over for a little while so I don't fall down completely. Once I've had my minute or so bent over I can stand upright and get on with what I'm doing.

Now I've had single instances of this before, I'm sure everyone has! and you say oops I stood up too quicklyand move on, but this is now pretty much every time I stand up.

Does anyone else get this constantly?

Jo

I can't speak to how this may or may not be related to Chiari, but one common cause of feeling lightheaded (to the point of passing out even) when standing up is low blood pressure.  I had this problem as a child.  I was told that low blood pressure is healthy and, in my case, did not need to be treated, but obviously be careful to avoid falling and getting injured.

You should still get checked out by a doctor to be sure nothing is wrong.

Hi...yup...I used to get this all the time too....and it was in fact from chiari and many times it can be ut BP and a related condition called POTS.

U deff need to be checked ...and it is most likely a BP issue.

BTW- my BP was always low as well...so it may be something  we all have : )

I've been having the same problem.  I saw a neurologist this week who told me the cause is the exertion from bending over or straining.   the tonsil stretches and cuts of the blood circulation.  Mine start when i bend over from the waist or do a stretch.  I get dizzy to the point of passing out (luckily that has only happened once).  As for how to prevent it?  He told me not to bend over!  Big help that was!  lol!

If this is what sparklyjojo23 was referring to, I get that all the time.  The low BP thing and the "man I shouldn't have bent over" feeling sound the same in words but feel totally different.  I've always assumed the dizzy/faint feeling from bending over is from CM since it causes the same CM headache.  Usually makes me feel like I'm going to puke too.

When it's low BP, it goes away pretty quickly and steadily after standing up...you feel light headed and sometimes your vision fades out and back in.  The feeling from bending over is usually more long lasting though (for me at least).  It will mess me up for hours sometimes.

I get them too-- mostly while singing, coughing, sneezing and, yes, when I get up too quickly.  It's definately chiari related but these valsalva manueuvers can magnify the pressure and it feels like a "head rush".  Sometimes, mine are accompanied by "firefly sparkles" that float in my periferal vision until the pressure inside my head normalizes and, sometimes, it's accompanied by dizziness, naseau, lightheadedness.  Definately things to mention to the MD.  Stay strong.

Thank you for everyones replys :)

I'll definitely mention it next time I see my doctor, whether it be to add to my symptoms or just make them aware of low blood pressure.
I actually looked up the symptoms for Pots as I had never heard of it and I actually have quite a number of them but I suppose a few of them are quite similar to chiari.

Actressmouse: I also get the 'firefly sparkle' things you mention, a lot actually! sometimes its when I'm not even doing anything. I always have trouble describing it, I usually say floating dots :)

Has anyone any clue about what this actually is??

Jo :)
