Heading to NY2day cerv,fusion thurs@noon

Hello everyone,
Packing for NYleaving this evening, any suggestions what to bring for a cervical fusion?  IDK how long we will be there, or the details of the surg,I have researched it,& I am VERY nervous. NS said we would go over the details 2morro in person,he said it is not a surg we could discuss over the phone, but surg  is needed ASAP to prevent perm nerve damage. Mace' is having hard time, she was unable to sleep last nite, she finally fell asleep @ 7am & is still sleeping. I myself am having a hard time, feeling like I'm lost, walking in circles, trying to be strong for my girls, but finding it hard to hold it together, afraid of the unknown. Please say some X-tra prayers to give my girls the strength they need to get through this.  Any suggestions what to bring for Mace'would b GREATLY appreciated.Thank You,Kelly

It will all be fine! I just had a fusion of c5c6 in November and compared to the decompression surgery this was so easy.  I was in surgery for almost 3 hours, they went in anterior (through the front) I had a neck collar on when I came out.  Pain was manageable.  I was up and walking and next day went home.  Recovery went well, had to wear brace for a week but then slowly built up stamina without it. You have to do PT to get ROM back after about 3 weeks.  Please let me know if I can answer anything else.  Saying tons of prayers and it will be ok!

HI Kelly, I know u r overwhelmed and that Mace is having a very rough time.....

Know I will post a prayer thread for u and her and ur family as I t=know this is affecting u all.

As to what to take, I would think she will want to rest, but she will need a walker, do u already have one?....u may want to pack it ....u will want button down shirts and PJ tops......as I do think this surgery will have her in a neck brace post op.

Look to her first surgery to see how active she was to see what she may  want to do...mayb some of her fav music on an Ipod....if she likes to color, it is something that may be nice and u both can remember when u did it when she was smaller....it should be easy enuff to do....and does not have to be perfect, it is the doing it together and talking about what color to use instead of  how r u feeling now....lol...just a distraction.....

Keep it simple, but something she likes : )
