Help with Nausea!!

I have Chiari Malformation and was told I have EDS as well, I'm in the process of getting an official diagnosis.  Besides headaches and other symptoms, one of my biggest problems is nausea!  I had the stomach bug back in January and it seems that ever since I have been extremely nauseous 80% of the time.  I've been tested for GI pathology and food sensitivities and nothing seems to correlate.  Been thinking of possibilities with sugar or salt/electrolyte problems?  It's worst at night, I wake up an hour or so after falling asleep and I'm extremely nauseous, I feel as if I move I will throw up and my body is shaking, like tremors.  It's weird and scary!  Anyone have any ideas or common symptoms?  It's beginning to affect my work and daily life and I'm desperate to find help!

I also suffer from severe nausea. From my experience I can say that keeping limes or lemons at the house and sucking on a slice can really be helpful if you don't mind sour. For when you're out of the house keeping ginger lollipops or candy in your purse is a good idea too.

I had always been nauseous, since I was a little kid but after my surgeries for the Chiari it was non-stop and horrible.  Nights were terrible because it was so bad I could not sleep.  Like you I would go to bed and that first hour I would escape and then I would wake up, maybe roll over or move, I don't really know but it was not usually more than a couple hours after I went to bed.  Then almost instantly the nausea would  build to a point that I could not even lay there or go back to sleep and I was out of bed most of the night and miserable.  They did all the GI tests and no one had even a guess, the nausea was worse than all the surgeries and I had a lot of them!  Luckily I had an apt. with someone scheduled for POTS and it was diagnosed as hyperadrenic POTS, the guess at this point is that the adrenaline issues make me stomach sick.  So when I wake up and the adrenaline dumps I am wide awake and sick.  I take propranolol now and it helps.  I can't say that it took it all away but I sleep again and can function.  When life gets crazy I usually have more issues but it is not at all like before.  What I really need is to find and go to a good autoimmune center, this is where I think my nausea comes from.  Just one more idea to think about.  Who knows what really does it but if you can find something to help than maybe you can sleep and function better again.  -Zygy

I can certainly offer you my sympathy and compassion. Like you, my main issue is nausea, and it really affects my day to day life. Try to find something that you can drink to settle your stomach (lemon or lime Italian soda from Whole Foods works for me). I also found these soft natural ginger chews that can be helpful. I also carry an airline illness bag in my purse at all times to avoid unexpected vomiting. I hope you can find something that relieves this for you.

Hi..,..many  of  us  with both Chiari and EDS do tend  to have GI issues even if they  did not show on  the  current  test  you have had,...it still  could be  part of your  issue....

EDS  also  tends   to  cause us to over produce  histamines....which can cause nausea.,...and  the GI issues...which  maybe  too early  for it to be  found.....

Ask  about seeing  an  ENT to rule this out.
