Keep track of your expenses as they could be tax deductible. I live in the Toledo, OH area and drove to Cleveland, OH for appointments; my tax preparer said we would be able to deduct the mileage, out-of-pocket expenses like deductibles and co-pays, and such. I believe it has to be at least 7% of your income to qualify for the tax deduction.
no! that was something that i really liked about heffez. for me, personally, it was a very positive experience. and the hospital was wonderful!!! go to his website, fill out the form and send it in with your films. he reviews films, if i remember correctly, on wed.
you're more than welcome! good luck!!
Thanks for the replies. I was wondering if there was a way to find out if it was even worth the trip. Didn't know they would look at films ahead of time. My husband is afraid that we will make another trip just to be told it isn't Chiari causing the problem. I will have to look into that. Thanks so much!!!
i went to dr. heffez and was extremely pleased with his work. depending on what he has to do, the cost will be between 25-50,000.00 for everything. please keep in mind that is ball park. i am on medicare and the rates for medicare in wi are of the lowest in the country. also, i don't remember the proper name for it, but the dr. that keeps an eye on your nerves during the surgery will not charge you if you can not afford to pay! he will do it at no cost to you!! i know that is a huge gap in price, but there are soo many variables! he will review your films at no cost and let you know before hand if he thinks he can help you. also, there is a place called kathy's house where my mom stayed and where i stayed after i got out of the hospital, but before i went home. it is very inexpensive and they, too, are willing to work with you on what you can afford.
dr oro charges 40.00 to look at your films and tell you if he can help you or not. that is the extent of my knowledge on him.
hope this helps!
if you have any other questions, please ask!

There is more than likely a maximum out of pocket at which point you will be covered at 100% usually is double for out of network. You will probably quickly get there if you need surgery. Something to ask your insurer or pull out your policy and read.
As far as Colorado or Wisconsin I have heard good things about both. I think more about Dr Oro but I dont know personally.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!
Hi...I am glad that ur insurance is able to cover half of the cost...I did not go to either of the centers u mention....and depending on ur insurance and which one u go to will determine cost.
I know we have members that have been to both locations, so I know u should get the info u need. The best place for the financial info is the office at each location....
Hearing the forum was a help to u in addition to the fact u r going to a chiari dr is great news....wishing u all the best....please keep us posted : )
