I guess I kind of get all of them...I think the most common ones for me post op are the ones that start at the base of my neck and head (feels more muscular and tender) then it spread to my temples which get REALLY sore and then to the front of my head and under my eyes (usually more in the left). Then my ears get the plugged feeling, my brain feels like it's being "wrung out" and my ears ring louder and if I move up and down, I get really bad head rushes. I get burning down my neck, shoulders, back too..
I also get the ice cream/ice pick feeling too...from behind my eyes and from my ears.
The neck clicking, I get often and it feels and sounds so gross...I'm not sure what that is about though.
Carolyn
Presure presure and behind my eyes is what I call the ice cream freeze becuase it is a similar burning sensation. I getting ringing in my ears and I have blurred vision. I feel noises and at times it pushes the presure and burn (I would describe it in a similar way to getting chlorine up your nose when u swim) into my shoulder and neck and even down my arms. Worse with laying down or standing up. I can't bend over or jump or move fast. This is the worst. But I never fully have relief.
My headaches start in the back of my neck up into right back of head and into right eye. I have to stay in warm dark room, in bed. Nausea and vomiting with it, and have been to ER a couple times d/t can't stop throwing up. My head really hurts when I walk, the pounding goes right into my head. The doctor says they are migraines but the triptans don't really help so I wonder. I hope you are feeling better, and that you have something to take for the pain.
Best wishes to you
Hi...I could describe my HA's many diff ways as they can be diff depending on what I am doing...mostly starting in the back of my head...sometimes the waterlogged sensation u mention can describe them very well...I also used to say my brain felt like it was swollen...and pushing out on all areas of my skull....or a vise is tightening around my head at my temple level,.,..
I had popping that actually hurt, no clicking....
Sorry u r feeling bad, and I pray u have a better day today : )
"selma"
jus came cross so thought id comment..
ive laid in bed most of the day - even had to keep the curtains upstairs closed cus the brightness of the day even makes my headache / eye pain worse. everythin seems too bright and painfull. its crap yet nothin seems to improve or help the pain. i feel like me head is bein squashed and no doubt this will go down my body and into me hands and legs soon :-(
Yeah... I think I understand the waterlogged sensation - also comes with slow cognition a lot... I will just sit and stare... lol (not really funny, but ya gotta laugh sometimes!)
The only Neurologist I've seen was in the ER after crashing my car due to vertigo... he sent me home with nothing... not even the MRI they said I was going to get which is why they had me stay overnight in the hospital!! UGH! He said follow up with ENT... and that guy thinks I have Migraine associated Vertigo.... no pain just vertigo... vertigo used to be my pain symptom and for some reason he can't hear all the other things I'm telling him...
So I guess at least you have a direction to go in with your diagnosis.... but man it would be nice if people took us seriously!! After I crashed my car (with my 11 month old baby and dog in the back) I was soooo freaked... I wanted a diagnosis and help asap - and no one cared. Maybe if I put their kids in my car and drove around with vertigo they would have a second thought!
Yeah i understand the pressure explanation, feels like my skull is waterlogged, does that make sense?
I have mixed diagnosis, My neurologist is trying to get me diagnosed for CFS/FM, The neurosurgeon says i have scoliosis, disc prolapse and a 3 mm chiari, The MRI report says there's an obliteration of fluid space, but no one has taken any notice of that, am waiting for Physio to start.
Before headache I have pains in my neck/lower back of head... then it progresses to my neck feeling strained and then I have a pressure like headache that can spread from the base of my neck all the way up the back of my head
do you have a diagnosis? I'm still waiting for one,,,
Thanks for the reply, apparently i have a fairly large prolapsed disc at c3-4, and moderate scoliosis + lack of refreshing asleep due to being uncomfortable all the time, This is bound to have an effect on the headaches. I have had numerous neurology appointments and the frustrating thing is that it's not really being taken seriously enough.
Hi, Thank you for your question. Generally this kind of pain arises in the back portion of the head and originates from the neck problems due to irritation in the cervical (neck) spine because the nerves that supply the back of the head start in the upper cervical spine. Mostly, this kind of head pain aggravates after turning head and typically occurs in patients with previous neck injuries and in patients with marked arthritis of the upper cervical spine. In addition, this pain exacerbate with prolonged sitting in a stooped posture and when working on a computers for long hours. On the other hand, there are patients who experience similar pain with sinusitis (sinus with infected mucus) and migraine. If you suffer continuous pain at back of head, please arrange an appointment with a neurologist right away who will evaluate the possibilities here and can provide you an appropriate treatment. Hope it helps.
