Hi

I am a big believer that the all over itchiness has something to do with excitable nerves caused by the Chiari.... B4 I got a load of symptoms I would have this weird urge to just itch everywhere, it would come on suddenly and leave almost as fast. I have found some material on the web that supports this...search neurogenic rash or itching and you will find some info. It is something I would mention at your next dr appt.

About ten days before my first scheduled surgery I had itchies... they seemed to travel and move from place to place and drove me nuts for a few days, I figured it was just stress induced.  Benedryl did help a bit, especially at night.

Hi...I had terrible itching, but it was a reaction to meds....and like Shannon said it could be a nerve that is pinched in some way or other that is sending signals ....some times the signal may be pain...numbness or itching.....

Deff discuss with ur dr so this is added to ur file.....he/she may not have much to offer u in a way to help u get rid of the itch as  if it is nerve related meds  may not help.

Try taking a shower on the cooler side...heat may intensify the itch.....the only other thing I can think of is to try a topical ointment.

Good luck with the itch and surgery ( please post an date update on teh surgery date thread if u haven't already)

You can ask your drs but most likely they wont know anything concrete and will probably think its some kinda mild reaction to something. I went through an itching spell too, 3 times actually and they all lasted about a week each and all within the last two months prior to surgery. We (my dr and I) finally decided it was nerve impingement. I'm still havin it now but it hasn't even been two weeks since surgery and i figure the nerves just have to settle down some or it may not go away but i hope it does. The only thing i found that helped any was lots of lotion lol Hope it gets better soon and i will be praying for you for your surgery! Blessings ~ Shannon
