Intense hip pain followed later with abdominal pain.

Incredible right hip pain, to Emergence, MRI of spine, no change in chiari malformation and syringomyelia.
1 week later, intense abdominal pain, eased off and then  36 hours later with nausea, diarrhea and different abdominal pain - felt like food poisoning but not so intense.  Had antibiotics for possible diverticulitis, specimens taken for bacteria etc. .  Question:  could this hip pain and then abdo pain be caused by nerves affected by the chiari?

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

It is highly possible ur pain is from the chiari....most of us have found  that meds just do not touch this pain....

Do u have a chiari specialist?...we do have a list of Drs that the members here have compiled of their own drs names. The list is not a referral, but a means to help u start ur research.

The list is located in a thread and the Health Pages are found at the bottom of this forum page.

I was just released from the hospital yesterday (after 6 days of them attempting to get pain control for a "headache") ..and, even tho I'm on a Fentanyl patch, Percoset, Neurontin and Topamax - I awoke this morning with excruitiating hip pain.  Is this related to the diagnosed Chiari Malformation?????

Hi, i do hope your feeling a bit better, i had this in June this year, 2 A&E visits within 2 weeks, the pain is indescribable, but yes like what you imagine food poisoning to feel like, i was in A&E for about 4 hours each time, xrays clear - infection clear - no kidney stones, i had to have liquid morphine cause the pain was unbearable, it's so weird, no one knows what caused it i had a repeat ultrasound 6 weeks later and nothing.

Hi...it is possible that ur hip pain is chiari related...it could be a pinched nerve or u could have Ehlers-Danlos it can cause joint pain.

As for the stomach, many chiarians have GERD...stress can cause it to flare up....
How do u feel now, I pray u r feeling better.
