They are for me. I have thyroid problems. 5mm nodules on left and right. Currently swing from hypo to hyper.
I am hypo so at least for me they go together :) -zygy
Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.
Yes, Chiari and thyroid issues do go together...those of us with chiari also r prone to connective tissue disorders and auto immune issues, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is what many of us tend to deal with.
Hashimoto's may not be dx'd if testing only includes TSH labs....we need to also test in addition to TSH, free T3 and free T4, and TPO antibodies, just checking TSH levels may appear normal, when in fact there is an issue.
Hashimoto's can also be dx'd by ultra sound of the thyroid, if they detect nodules they will do an ultra sound every 6 months to see if they r increasing in size.
Meds sometimes r needed, and with Hashi's u can go btwn being hyper to hypo.....
Chiari is related to some thyroid problems. I do not know much about those as I don't personally have any thyroid issues that I am aware of at the moment. I do know that I have heard hyperthryroidism mentioned, and am sure that there will be someone with some more information to help.
Sorry to see you here, but glad to welcome you to our community. You are in the rightplace for info :)
