Hi..my NS is Dr.Gold...I go and see him next week...I know that he is good cause my younger son has brain cancer and he is taking care of him to plus the drs.in NC at Duke...He is in Parkersburg WV.... God Bless
I'm still new to this site, but I saw on here that someone posted about a Chiari Inst in Milwaukee, WI. My primaryPrimary amyloidosis Primary biliary cirrhosis Primary hyperparathyroidism Primary insomnia Primary lymphoma of the brain doc looked into it for me (I live about 30 minutes from Milwaukee) after I heard about it. We have an appt scheduled on 12/17.
So far, here is what I know: the neurosurgeon is Dan Heffez - it seems that he was previously in Chicago at Neuro Inst and at St. Joseph's I believe. He has been working with Chiari for 15 years. I'll know more next week.
Also, they take my insurance and I am in-network there - It seems that the Chiari Inst in NY is cash basis or something like that?? I will update you all then, but in the meantime, has anyone seen this doc in Chicago??
Thanks all!!
I found his name from another mother on ASAP. Her son had the surgery preformed by him.
So far we are pleased with him. We have another appt. on 12/30.
To date he has been very knowledgable and had her go for vestibularAcoustic neuroma testing to make sure that there is nothing else involved that could make her feel the way she does.

I've been seeing Dr. Merle Diamond from the Diamond Headache clinic in Chicago and she is helping me with the headaches. She is real understanding and she is trying her best to relieve the pain. She has me on anti seizure meds and hey have really been helping.
In AZ, Barrows has an obnoxious waiting list. I actually found mine in the yellowYellow fever vaccine Yellow nail syndrome pages (something I NEVER do for a Dr), but I had my surgery done by Dr. Marc Ercius. He is not a Chiari "specialist", but he is VERY experienced with it, and I couldn't be happier with him. He is also part of Neurological Physicians of Arizona, but he is their only surgeon. Their neurologists seem to know quite a bit, also. My father in law is a Dr (but pediatric, so doesn't generally deal with "grown-up" Dr's) but he researched Dr. Ercius and said he found nothing bad on his record- in fact, all positives. I'm very happy with my decision and would refer him to anyone in AZ who can't afford to get to TCI in NY, or the one in CO (I forget the name, Dr. B???)
Shane99 condensed our list of drs. (Thanks Shane!)
This list is not a complete list of possible Specialists - Please continue to add.
This is not any kind of "Official" list of Chiari Specialists! These are simply NeuroSurgeons that we patients have listed as liking. No background checks have been made about them. If you wish to follow up, please research on your own. If you are comfortable with your current doctor and he/she is actually qualified to perform Chiari Decompression Surgery, then don't let us tell you any differently. This list is just to help people connect with NeuroSurgeons.

Young surgeon, could not find much information on her on line but when my husband and I met with her there was nothing but pure comfort and confidence that we felt when we seen her and that was each and every time. So we never considered even trying to find another surgeon considering we learned there were no specialist in CT. She explained everything in great detail, went over the MRI as far as the herniation (13 mm) and the syrinx which was quite large which was the concern that led to the surgery. It was clear she knew what she was talking about. I've done so much research on this condition to no end when I found I may have this that our first meeting was not to foreign. Post op she has been great as well. I know I'm still early in the post op (Feb 25, 2009) but so far she has given nothing but full attention. She listens. I never felt brushed off.

Dr. Timothy Wiebe in Hattiesburg, Mississippi is a Chiari, Syringomyelia, and Tethered Cord specialist. He is a Pediatric and Adult Neurosurgeon at the American Brain and Spine Institute.
Our visit with Dr. Wiebe was very pleasant, and I found him to be extremely knowledgeable. He took much time in answering questions and sharing his experiences with us. My daughter was very relieved at how attentive and observant he was.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.
my doctor was dr. karin muraszko @ C.S. Motts childrens hospital in ann arbor at the university of michigan. she is a chiari specialist and is one of the most influential and amazing people i have ever met. i cant thank her enough for all the support shes given me and for basically saving my life. if anybody has chiari out there. i strongly suggest making a trip to the university of michigan to see her. shes incredible and i had such a positive experience there. =)

i liked him a lot he took his time with us befor surgery and at our first appt. i was in the hospital for 6 days and he saw me 2 times but his pa saw me everyday.
My Neurologist here in albany ny is Dr. Lisa Billars. (Capital Neurological Associates) She's a wonderful doctor, though not a chiari specialist. She picked up right away on the chiari situation and immediately started trying to figure out ways to help my symptoms such as getting a CPAP for my sleep apnea (apparently I stopped breathing 72 TIMES during the study!) and suggesting I start taking riboflavin for the migranes. She is very caring and knowledgable and instantly puts you at ease!
I'm looking for a NS and another Neurologist that is a chiari specialist in NY that accepts my insurance. All I ever here about is the Chiari Institute but they don't accept my insurance so does anyone know of others?
This is an add on to my post in March whereas I recommended :

Everything about my surgery was a positive experience. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr Gorelick in Connecticut.
Dr. Gregory W. Canute, Dept. of Neurosurgery 725 Irving Ave. Syracuse, New York (315) 464-55133. He did my surgery Sept.10,2009. He was great, experienced with CM and very understanding.
