Life after surgery

I had my surgery about 11 years ago and with each passing year I have noticed that my memory and other symptoms such as sever neck and shoulder pain and other problems get worse with each passing year.  All I get from doctors is pain meds, that only make me sleepy (one of my other problems is I'm constantly sleepy) that I don't want.  Has anyone had ANY problems after surgery??? Please help! I feel like I'm going crazy!!!

Have u had ur Thyroid checked? Vitamin levels?

Since u r saying depression and anxiety, I am thinking it was not a CSF leak or some to the typical post op issues.

many of us do go thru depression and anxiety as part of the dx and  post op recovery process....that is normal to an extent.

What do u do on a daily basis? There r games u can do to help with memory....and to get ur motabilisum up that may also help with the anxiety and depression.

Look at our Wednesday Thread u may be able to utilize a few of those exercises.

My symptoms started about a year after my surgery. They started with extreme depression and anxiety.  Then came the memory loss.  I seem to have zero energy and it is only getting worse. I can't work because of all my symptoms and I fear I may be turned down SSD because they think my problems are not bad enough!!! I'm so scared and I don't know what to do!!!!

Hi I'm 33 yrs old and have 3 little boys. I was just told I needed to have the surgery for my chiari. I am sorry that your symptoms are bad but that's how I feel right now and I also get dizzy and fall down and the sun makes my stomach upset. I was just trying to figure out if I should do this surgery BC it scares me. If you knew now how u would feel would you have done this??
Hi Steph9983,
This is an older thread and the member you are addressing may no longer be an active member....but I had surgery and would do it again with the Dr I had...having the right Dr is key...they need to rule out ALL related conditions before surgery is offered and precautions made depending on which other conditions and issues you may have.

Hi...yes there r many members that have had post op issues, may I ask when ur symptoms started?

Have u had a MRI post op? How long since ur last one?

It is possible to develop other issues post op like ICP, POTS, even epilepsy...so u do need to have a Dr that is aware of what can happen post op to know how to treat it and u.

Also many with chiari also have Ehlers-Danlos, this can cause all types of all over pain....

If u were not checked for these b4 surgery, it is possible ur Dr is not looking at or for these post op either....do get checked to see what is going on.
