Low Lying tonsills

My 15 year old daughter has been suffering from extremely bad headaches, neck pain, dizziness for quite a while.  My mother recently passed from a massive brain bleed triggered by stroke.  I decided I needed my daughter scanned.  MRI results where cerebral tonsillar octopi 3mm-4mm.  Still waiting for neurosurgeon consult.  In the mean time, I have no idea what to do to help with her daily headaches.  We have tried: Aleve, IBU 600mg, Celebrex: nothing is helping.  Any suggestions?

Thank you everyone for the tips. Its very frustrating to see my daughter in pain and not able to do anything about it.  Very scary too as vertigo has gotten pretty bad with her and we live in a two story house.

My migraines were triggered at the age of 15. So when I had extremely bad headaches my dad decided to keep me home as he knew with the stress of school work along with headaches I wouldn't be able to concentrate long enough to get through one class. The er prescribed IBU along with Tylenol 3 codenine my body quickly adjusted to the meds way to quickly for anyone's liking. But since they were unwilling to look into it further they just kept going the dosage. Now I need unseemly amount of IBU for it to even knock the edgeoff.

Something's that help me are using an ice pack at the base of my head and neck. I am also taking topamax though my body took a long time to adjust to. Imitrex as been a real blessing lately. And I take IBU everyday along with the topamax. The imitrex is only to be used on my extremely bad days. I also find that destressing each day with a long hot bubble bath using lavender and candle light is very helpful. I hope you can use some of my tips.

Sounds  like she  might be  having an issue with over producing Histamines....do  let  the  Dr  know about the nose bleeds, and congestion....as  the longer  she  has  it, it  may develop into reflux....

No reflux .  Does seem to always be congested and has begun to have frequent nose bleeds with rather large clots.

Hi and  welcome to the Chiari forum.

Most  meds  do not help with Chiari pain....sorry.....but we can do things...like avoid  certain  activities.....and foods....

I know  florescent lights affect  me so my  eye  Dr gave  me  tinted glasses...they help....also wearing sunglasses  to help with bright sunlight is also  helpful....

While at age 15  is  school age....school can  add  to how she feels....carrying heavy books.....climbing  stairs...certain activities  in gym class.....see if she can use  a  wheeled  book  case...so she is not lifting  them....and if the school has a elevator  if  more then  one floor...

She may  need to take  a nap  after  school to  recharge....

A 3 to 4 mm herniation by most  Drs will be dismissed.....they look for a herniation  of 5 mm's or longer...I know that is  not  right since  smaller herniations  can cause the  same if not more symptoms  then  one  that is long and  thin....so a CINE MRI  will help determine if there is  an  obstruction of  CSF  flow....

Does your  DD   also  have  reflux?...PND?.....sometimes  taking  an  antihistamine  can help with these plus  help  us  sleep  a more restorative sleep.
