MRI results

So 2 weeks after my second scan [ which should have been CINE but my dappy GP ordered a normal one grrr] I was expecting it to say excatley the same to be honest, but it doesn't at all.

Head
The cerebella tonsils are noted to extend low in the foramen magnum, there is no significant dilation of the ventricular system.

Cervical spine
At C3/4 there is a moderately large osteodiscal bulge posteriorly laterally on the left, It extends into contact with a slightly impinges on the left side of the spinal cord, at this level there is a pronounced narrowing of the left inter vertebral foramen and impingement on the associated nerve root. No significant disc prolapse or spinal stenosis is demonstrated on the remainder of the cervical spine

SO............

i have no idea what to make of this really, I specifically asked when i had my MRI that the size of the herniation is noted on my report for my records. and to me it looks like the cervical area is pretty messed up.

I am sure....loss of the cervical lordosis?...is that the same as physical lordis?

I know it is also called soldier neck...and can be the result of whip lash...as well as some other issues.

The scoliosis could also change the curvature of the lordosis and it can cause a lot of shoulder muscle issues.....I had this  from whip lash and I went to drs, back then (in my teens) they did not do MRI's only xrays....so they did not find my chiari....

PT can help this issue, but they do have to be mindful of the neck area...not knowing I had chiari I did go to a chiropractor and did get some of the curve back...and it did relieve some of the pain and pressure  I experienced.

I am sure the breathing issue is related.

Yes the Disc prolapse is at C3-4, with a smaller one further down, i also have moderate scoliosis and loss of physical lordis.

I wonder if this is the reason i have been getting that 'something is wedged feeling in my upper back' and not being able to lay on my left side cause its hard to breathe ?

Yeah, u have to be careful if and when someone touches ur neck.....

Stinosis is a narrowing.,..so to have a disk bulge in the same area is not good.

This is y it is best to be seen by a chiari specialist...as they know all the areas to look at...some of the other drs only look at the size of the herniation and go by some old standard as to what is considered chiari and what is not....I get sooooo frustrated at times bcuz as I understand it...chiari malformation is the skull being too small to contain the cerebellum.....as a result u can have a herniation....but, regardless if u have a herniation or not, u still have chiari.....and u can have symptoms with out a herniation.

So, when a drs describes chiari as  a herniation size, u know to go look for a diff dr.

CSF flow can be disrupted at so many diff locations, and bcuz of so many diff issues...like disks, stinosis, a syrinx, and the chiari tonsils....and even the odontoid.

Yeah i will!! that's what i worry about ...

There's got to be obvious CSF abnormal flow right? Because isn't stenosis narrowing?? add a chiari malformation in the mix, my foramen is a bit packed out by the sounds of it?

If the tech is not aware how to work with these issues they could do more damage than good.....
Sometimes PT can work on a bulging disk...I was told I would need to have mine removed and the disk above and below fused....I am waiting until after my DD's wedding to even consider it....

Do be sure they know all that is going on with u b4 they touch u.

Good luck

Yes Selma that's it, i was quite shocked actually, no mention of assymetrical temporal horns / obliteration of fluid space like the old one.

Do you think i should have a CINE mri now? If it affects CSF flow [ i mean the disc bulge ] what's the options here for treatment? I'm supposed to start Physio on my neck and back next week i'm a little nervous about that ....

Hi...disk issue in the cervical spine area is not uncommon with chiarians...I too have bulging disks, along with stinosis....mine is affecting CSF flow....

Is this all the report said?
