I had my MRI done 6 months post-op, but that was only because I was having issues. I ended up getting an LP done a few weeks later. (I also have CSF issues.) It has been 8 months since my last MRI...my doc said he'd be happy with one / year so I go in October again.

Like Selma said, there's a lot of variation in post-surgical scans. I've had a couple of surgeries with no follow-up scans and one with a CT at 1-month out. My new NS who did my most recent surgery is very thorough and did scans and one month, three months, and six months. I'll have another one at 1 year, which is less that a month away (hard to believe!).

Just curious...How do people with fusions and hardware in their necks get MRIs post op?

I had dissolvable stitches so I never had mine taken out. My first post op MRI was about 3 months post op. each doctor is different, however, and it depends on how you are healing too. Good luck with your appointment!!!

Getting the staples out was WONDERFUL for me. Took away a lot of pulling pain I'd had. My first MRI was 6 months post op.

Hi Mike....it all depends...if u r having issues they may decide to do ur MRI sooner then later, I had a 2 week post op visit a 6 week, a 6 month and then a 1 yr where I had my MRI.

I also did not have stitches.....I had sterri strips and glue.....so I can not share what to expect.....

All of us are different and each Dr is diff as to how often he/she will want to see u and how u are doing will also play into it.

Good Luck
