Mega Headache after surgery?

Hi!

I just had decompression surgery last week and was in the hospital for about 5 days. When in the hospital the medication made the pain bearable. When I came home and after my first bowel movement (which I thought included very little strain per the amounts of stool softener and milk of magnesia I took in the hospital) I started getting the worst full head migraine. It's like a stabbing pain in the upper part of my head, like a band around the top. It is never ending and the oxycodone (5 mg every 2 hrs) isn't touching it. I also am taking Tylenol every 6 hours and Roboxin every 8 hours. Just wondering if anyone else experienced this, knows what can help, etc?

Thanks!

I have found the staff to be the issue with most Drs and why I always get an e-mail addy for the Dr as it is direct contact...many will be willing to do this for their patients...so, ask about it.

I also have a question..did they rule out EDS for you, the reason I ask is the veins being blown...this can happen with a certain type of EDS.....

Please do let us know what they find out.   Your symptoms of not being able to move, eat or drink were similar to my meningitis friends.  I am so glad they are taking it serious.  They, too, were given steroids and pain meds.  Take it easy though when you start feeling better...slow and easy wins the race.  And yes i agree his office really dropped the ball.  You did call the doc and he needs to realize the seriousness of  his staff blowing you off.  Praying for pain relief and for comfort as well.  Hugs!

Thank you for the prayers and advice! I have been moved from icu. They have run a bunch of blood work the past couple days but so far it looks like I only have a slight elevation of white blood cells and I got a small fever yesterday that hasn't come back. They changed my muscle relaxant to an awesome one that has helped immensely with my movement and added more pain meds and a steroid to reduce the swelling in my brain and neck. The steroid is making me hot and sweaty but it has made my neck look so much better. I can't believe how much better I am feeling in 24 hours. I'm not ready to yet, I still had a rough night, but if things keep going well like this the future looks better. I couldn't eat or drink for two days, only drank enough to take medicine at home when all this happened so I got immensely dehydrated. I have blown five veins and am covered in bruises so I had to have a midline put in by iv therapy. The idea if it being eight inches in my arm freaks me out. I never want my pain to go up to the not drinking water level again. It causes a lot of problems later. My doctor should be in this morning and hopefully we have a much better conversation. His office called me yesterday afternoon to schedule an appointment because of my symptoms. I told the girl I was admitted and had talked to the doctor a few hours earlier. She sounded nervous and tried to get details to add to her notes. I really think his staff dropped the ball and didn't get the help I needed right away. He really wished I would have called him but I did. So there needs to be a better way of communicating problems like this without it getting unbearable. My neurologist said I had an awesome and very talented surgeon but she has heard tons of complaints about his staff. I just hate I had to added to that list.

I wish you did not have to deal with all the crazy things - especially at a time when you were in deep pain. Others above are praying for your relief, and I will add a prayer that the professionals who are caring for you will be more attentive to your pain and will give you information both quicker and with more sensitivity. Do well. Please post any new information you get.

My husband tried calling my ns for two days with no reply. His staff *****. We kept getting told our message was "in queue" and would be answered when the time came. We called the after hours emergency lines. I couldn't eat, sleep, move, or hardly drink because the pain was so bad. So we went to the ER last night and I was readmitted. I'm in the icu now. My MRI looks clear according to my NS who showed up this morning. After making me feel stupid- "if you had talked to me I would have said spasm and said its nothing and stay home." But this is some of the worst pain I have ever had. It felt like the spinal headache i had waking up from surgery. No amount of pain killers make it leave but it can make it more comfortable

  Hi and welcome back !!

Have you continued to take the stool softener now that you are home?....I know it may seem you took enuff but you will need to continue with it as you heal for a few days to at least 2  weeks....it really depends on you and how your system is working....

May I ask what you have been doing since you got home? Sometimes we feel so good we tend to over do it....??
