What Selma says above, about convincing your doctor to perhaps consult a Chiari specialist, is the big consideration. I had to travel to my surgeon (not out of my country) and the expenses matter a great deal. Whatever you do, always keep your receipts for later use.
I hope you can find some relief for the pain.
It is true the herniation is not the bigger issue, but if it is creating a CSF obstruction.....and it is possible you may have related conditions that can be adding to your pain levels.
I am not aware if you can get copies of your MRI's and reports in S. Africa...or if you can locate a Chiari specialist...what you may be able to do is convince one of your Drs there to consult with a Chiari specialist here in the states that may be able to suggest a course of action that will help .
I'm in South Africa and the dr told me yesterdterday that cerebellar descent exactly means nothing and mine is 8 mm so where to from here the pain I experience is undurable I even ask my ppl to get my pain killers from home because the pain meds they giving me at hospital doesn't help at all I'm frustrated because the pain gets worse at night
HI and welcome to the Chiari forum.
First I would suggest you get copies of your MRI's b4 and after your surgery...as well as the surgical report...go to the facility where the studies and surgery were done...it may take a few days...but this will help as you seek out a Dr to help you.
I would also suggest research Chiari Drs....be advised you may have to travel to get to one....
Where do you live?....as that will determine which of the lists of Drs for you to use for your research.....
You need to search for a chiari specialist. Also subscribe to the chiari community on the forum - there you will get help.
