Need of some advice

Hi, Everyone.

I'm new to the forums and thought I would ask for a little advice. I am 35. I was diagnosed with CM, as well as a syrinx, in 2004. At the time of my diagnoses, I was suffering from nystagnas, diplopia, and numbness in my arms and legs. Underwent decompression in 2005. Since then, my eyes have returned to normal. No sign of double vision or nystagnis. Numbness has also disappeared.

I have been accepted into the state police academy in my state. I currently work for a package delivery company. Not going to tell you guys which one, only that they are brown. :) On average, I work 12 hours per day and it is extremely physical. I also have been doing the P90X program for the past 3 months. I am happy to say that I have not had any symtoms associated with these. At the same time, I am torn whether or not to pursue my "dream job" knowing that the syrinx, even though smaller, is still and will always be there.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi I congratulate you. Sounds like you are doing great. I am only 32 and can not do a quarter of what I used to. I am an autoworker, I build steering gears, have been on sick leave for over a year now, and know I will probly never be able to do my job again. I can't believe you do all you do. That is fantastic. Are you ever in pain? I went to a jv football game for 2 hrs last night and am paying for it now....

Wow, good for you; we love success stories!

Just curious:  are you accepted before or after a physical?

I am so happy u have such a great outlook on it ......I had this condition for my whole life....and did not have surgery until a few months b4 I turned 50.....so, age and a few related conditions hold me back in the energy department....

It is having these addition issues that make we wonder how u can do all u do, and even consider something so physical....but, when I look back at ur age I was pushing myself and doing a lot too....

Can u post the eye exercise link on the Wednesday Thread? I am sure we have others that would like to see that one. : )

Thanks for the welcome. It is congenital. My first symtoms appeared at my dentist. At first they thought it was Bells Palsy, then Acoustic Neuroma, then MS. I was actually scheduled to have a spinal tap. The night before, the neurologist called and told me they had found the cm on the MRI films. As far as the energy goes, I decided once I was diagnosed that it was what it was and that it wasn't going to beat me :) Through a lot of research I was able to adjust my diet accordingly, devoloped a workout routine with the basics and gradually increasing intensity as I was able. I found certain eye exercises on the web to help correct the double vision. I have my days, though. Sometimes I don't feel like doing anything, but I kick myself in the butt and do it anyway. It has been worth it :)

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

I am amazed at how well u r doing.....and have to ask was ur Chiari acquired or congenital?

The job u r doing is physical already I can only expect  the academy to be much more so....and not sure if ur medical history will be a factor in if they will even accept u....never had neone try or let us know.

Where do u get the energy?
