Neurologist's treatment....

Well, as we all know we feel like guinea pigs with this diagnosis.  We continue to see Neurologists and Neurosurgeons, yet no one listens to us.
I went through 4 days of hell over the weekend. My NS wanted me to see a Neurologist to attack my symptoms as a "migraine" headache issue.  I started with Depakote 500mg.  I was also on an IV treatment called DHE IV for the past 4 days, every 8 hours.  I went into the Infusion department at the hospital at 8am Friday morning.  Had the lovely IV put in me and then the meds started.  I was given Raglan to stop nausea, then the DHE was injected into Sodium "something" (sp?) drip and then was on a 20min drip.  By Sat evening, there was no change, had my constant headache.  I called the DR and he wanted me on a pres called Zyprexa to help release my tension and see if that would help...2.5 mg of that stuff knocked me on my *** for about 12hrs.  The catch...no local pharmacies open on Sat evening so we had to drive 45minutes away (each way) to pick up this medicine.  Then put me on 5mg...I was out!!!!!!!!  By Monday morning, 4am I'm sobbing and my IV was starting to back up and I had so much pain/burning trying to flush it.  I made my way through it but then called the dr and told him that I had 2 more treatments and if he wanted me to do them I had to have the visiting nurses come in and do another IV site...yay!  The visiting nurse came in at 3pm, put my IV in one of the most painful parts of my wrist.  I finished the 2 treatments and took the damn thing out.
Now the Neurologist knows this treatment did not work, now it's time to get back with the NA and get this surgery planned!!!!!!!  UGGGG!
Sorry for being so long, but so much to write.

What counts is how u feel about him...if u r confident in him/her that is what matters.....and the amount of surgeries does help....the more they do the better chance of them being better able to be prepared and have no surprises crop up.

Please keep us posted.

My Neurosurgeon has done many surgeries with Chiari but I don't know if you would call him a specialist.  Does 1000's of surgeries count?
I will keep you posted.
