Numbness in body, legs, and feet post op

I just had my decompression surgery June 10, 2015. Dr said all went well. However, upon coming to in ICU I had numbness from my neck down, for the exception of my left arm and hand. The further down my body it goes the worse it is. My right arm and hand are tingly but usable. My back and behind stay numb. My legs and feet are horrible. I will be going to physical therapy to help learn where to place my feet so I can walk. Has anybody else had this, did they recover fully, and is there even a name for it???

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

I know this has happened from time to time and not sure if there is a name for what is going on other then inflammation due to the surgery itself.

We all respond differently to not only the surgery,, but the meds used as well.

Do keep us posted on your progress..Sending you healing MoJo for a smooth recovery.

Could it be inflammation from the surgery??  I do have a friend that had surgery in April also, she did have issues with her left leg as you are explaining which was inflammation of the spine.  She is still working with PT, but is now able to walk without a walker.  I myself did not experience that for either of my surgeries.......I had a decompression on April 2nd then a CSF leak repair on June 2nd.  Stay strong & keep positive!!  Wishing you the best of outcomes!! <3
