I heard Ipads can be an issue as well....scary when people all around use hand held devices that may have an effect on ur health....

True ....mayb they will review their cheapness on one day stays after surgery.....ugh.

You know, I literally got the approval in the mail for the shunt the DAY before surgery.  There really was not time for a formal appeal, and I wasn't willing to get stuck with hospital charges because they weren't pre-approved.  I left the hospital crying in pain.  Inexcusable.  But it is what it is.  I've met my max out of pocket for the year.  I'm betting Cigna will be paying more for my ER visit that next day than they would have just keeping me inpatient for one more night. But, hey! it all worked out.

And yes! magnetic fields and things are already on my radar since I have a pacemaker that I rely on 99% of the time.  (:

I am sure u got the 411 on shunts and how certain appliances can affect the programmable ones....so do make sure u r aware and those around u are as well.....

Couldn't u appeal to ur INS to stay longer?....goodness that does not sound right at all.

Praying everything turns out ok...keep us posted and all u can do is rest up so u can heal <3

thanks guys.  It was a rough surgery.  My insurance only approved ONE DAY IN THE HOSPITAL -- and it's normal to stay 2-7 days.  So I was back in the ER the next day with horrible abdominal pain.

Another complaint aimed towards the hospital ... or my neurosurgeons fellow, is that I was sent to an "unmonitored" room.  And after my last surgery they had HUGE issues keeping my pain under control.  This unmonitored room meant I wasn't worth a 24/7 heart monitor so they couldn't keep me as pain-free as they should have been able to.  Not a happy camper there.

The shunt started working almost immediately, however, and was draining a bit too much so I had it adjusted yesterday.  I have a pacemaker made by medtronic, and I guess the valve on this shunt is also made by medtronic ... so they have a lot of real estate in my body!!!

Overall I'm happy with going through with it, but my abdomen is still very, very, very sore.  Along with getting the shunt adjusted yesterday they did a urinalysis and I'm hoping for a UTI (haha, hoping! for a UTI!!) and not something more sinister.

I'm going to be posting graphic pictures for anyone interested in gore and the new incisions on my body! ;P

Thanks everyone for thinking of me .... this chiari business is a tough pill to swallow.
