Pic of MRI

HI! I finally figured out how to post my mri from cd! I have it posted as my pic and in my photos.  I welcome any comments about the CM or the SM!  Im going in for a second opinion (was supposed to be my third and final, but second one was cancelled due to weather) on Monday at 10am at University Of Michigan Hopspital with Dr. Sullivan.  My third opinion, is with Dr. Malik.  Then its decision time I spose! My husband thinks my syrinx is large because he thinks its pretty wide, do you think so?? The first NS I went to also called this a large syrinx, and rec. surgery soon...
Thanks in advance!!!
Mazie!

I am certainly not a doc but it does look wide to me.  I hope your appts go well and you find the doc that are at peace with.  Make sure that you are seeing a CM specialist.  Your risk of complications is going to be so much less with someone who does this surgery all the time.  I personally wouldnt trust anyone else to do it.  If they tell you after surgery you are cured... you know you are at the wrong place.  Best of luck to you.

Hi..well u have both for sure a syrinx and a herniation ...and with the syrinx a CSF blockage...so , yes surgery is usually suggested as the syrinx will only get larger and continue to cause u issues.

Ur syrinx does look wide, but not being an expert on syringomyelia I really can 't say too much....

  Good luck Monday

Thanks!! :o)  I am comfortable with my first NS.  He really took time and went over my MRI with me, and even said that decompression surgery might not reduce the syrinx, but that it does many times, and they try to fix the cause of the Syrinx first. Since Im hyper reflexic he believes I have nerve damage already and thats why he reccommended surgery soon! Im just one of those people that need convinced ALOT I guess. I have a silly belief that my syrinx will never grow, and I will just live fine all my life! Not realistic I am sure, and I realize it..just a nagging feeling! My husband is quite convinced the other two NS's I see will all say the same : Surgery! We will see I spose!
Thanks again, I know I repeat, and post alot! I really enjoy this board..very helpful

U use the boards just the way they r intended to be used....and I am so glad to hear u have a dr u r comfortable with....the first NS I saw said I did not have it after I was told I did, so I was confused...I went to another NS who said I had it, but he was unable to help me as it was above him(glad he was honest) and finally the last one was with the one that did my surgery......

I understand ur reluctance....and caution u to look at ur symptoms as well as ur syrinx, and keep in mind if u have nerve damage u may not feel what it is doing to u.

Keep us posted on ur next visit : )
