Relationship to other issues... Just wondering and laughing!

Hello Everyone :)  Just had to share because I know we see lots of things in common!  It is quite interesting to see what things we all seem to share and what "might" go along with chiari.  I have seen thyroid many many times and do have that issue but my question today is if people have other "bone" malformations?

I have Chiari but have also been dealing with Osteo-synovial-chondromatosis which is getting little bone tumors in a joint.  Just interesting it was also "bone" stuff.  Then I go to a Dr.  for a foot problem this week and find I am lucky enough to have an extra little bone in my foot called accessory navicular, fairly common I guess, 2-10% of the population can have this extra foot bone.  It just seems weird that once again it is a "bone" malformation issue!

Hi...I know what u mean....I also have a tilted pelvis...so, I wondered about that as well...my PCP felt that those with Chiari may have smaller features....not sure if there is ne doc to substantiate it, but it is an interesting point that if u have a malformation there, what caused it and could it have caused something else......

I also have EDS- and those with EDS will have joint issues like stinosis and it does go hand in hand with chiari....

Chiari is the malformation of the cerebellum part of the skull leading to the herniation of the tonsils.....which many Drs feel will happen neway with time as a result of gravity....and this is y so many feel it is an incidental finding...it is not the herniation that makes it chiari, but the smaller area and overcrowding...the tonsils then depending on the shape can obstruct CSF flow.....

Also those with EDS r more likely to have a retroflexed (turned or curved the wrong direction) odontoid...this bone holds the skull in place...with EDS the ligaments r lax and u have a bobble head and the bone can put pressure on the brain stem.

It is a very strange set of dominoes that get knocked over...

I always wonder this too.  I know that I've read studies that discuss the issue of a smaller cranium in cm patients.  I also know that there are studies that have looked at stenosis, but I'm not sure that's the type of bone issue you're wondering about.

For me, my cm has led to being exes with eds, a connective tissue disorder.  I'm not sure how much my eds or cm1 or maybe a combo of the two has led to some of my joint and spine issues.

I'd love to see some osteo studies done.
