Saw Dr. about Pain and Speech Issues

Surgery was 8/15 and I've had a lot more pain lately as well has speech problems (I am in a rehab facility getting speech/occupational/physical therapies)  Dr. told me it hasn't been a month yet (lacks 2 days lol) and my pain level of 7/10 is normal and may be that was for 6 months.  I was not aware of that time frame for pain before surgery.  My pain didn't get that bad until last week and he explained that I was under the 'anesthesia effect' and wasn't aware of the pain until it started wearing off (a month to wear off?).  He also said my speech problems (word finding, organized thinking, processing... aka I can't play cards because they don't make sense to me) were caused by anesthesia.  I wasn't put to sleep using gas, I was under IV sedation because of a medical condition.  The nurse here tonight told me that is very dangerous and a lot of people have severe speech and thinking problems after that kind of sedation.  Again, I  wasn't aware of that.  What I don't understand is how my pain can be getting worse because anesthesia is wearing off, but my speech is getting worse because of anesthesia?

Anyway, that is my update.  On the good side everything is looking good and I've got a huge improvement of my chiari symptoms.

Hi...I know it  does take time for the  anesthesia to wear off and we r all diff as to how long it takes and how it may affect us.

Most of us will feel 100% better post op, and most of that is bcuz of the drugs used for surgery...once they begin to wear off we may feel some symptoms...sometimes not until 2 or 3 months post op bcuz of pain meds ..etc...but the healing process will bring a return of some symptoms as the nerves that were impinged again begin to work.

As for the speech issues, I can not really comment.I also am not familiar with too many that have had to be in a rehab facility post op.
This is an indication u had much more going on pre op to require this care and treatment.

Recovery is slow...and we all have had speech issues during recovery as well and b4 surgery...so, it just may be that u need to give it more time.....

Congratulations on the symptoms so far, and that u  r doing well.
