Sore Throat

by merlot3106, Nov 06, 2009 02:53PM
I have been wondering for a while but keep forgetting to ask.

I know that with chiari some people have problems swallowing. I don't have that issue. But everytime my neck gets extremely bad  and I have an awful headache (like today) I get a horrible sore throat. I was just wondering if anyone else expirences this or knows of anyone who has.

Thanks, any suggestions on how to make it feel better would be greatly appreciated.

I do use hot tea and I live on popsicles...lol No I havn't had my thyroid checked and I don't have acid reflux, I have been checked because of stomache issues I have had in the past. I had 2 ulcers in my stomache that they say are healed now even though I still have the same symptoms going on in my stomache. So I don't know what that is all about.
The funny thing is my throat only hurts when my neck and head pain get out of control.

Thanks for your help selma!

Hi Meg, I agree with selma, hot drinks with honey and lemon added should help to sooth it. no harm to say this to your NS.

Tell your PCP. He may want you to go see an ENT.

I hope you feel better meg.  sore throats can stink.....  hot drinks with honey will help and maybe try some ice on the back of your neck if you can stand it.  maybe swelling is causing pressure on your neck and esophagus causing the soreness  that is a guess though i of course have no way to know if that is why.

but deff add the to the list of things to review next week.   write it down so you dont forget to ask  : )

To everyone: Thanks for your advice, I will try anything at this point.

To Lu7997: No that you mention it Ithink I did read something once, it was an article about someone's story that when there neck would heut it would swell and press on their esophagus which would cause a sore throat. I actually couldn't remember it or if I had dreamed it...lol. Thanks for reminding me :) I will ask Dr, H about it on Wed. I will have my wonderful Husband with me, thank goodness so whatever I forget he always remembers to ask.

Thanks again everyone, have a wonderful evening!!

Hi Meg, i have some sinius and Post-nasal drip (PND) issues that cause a chronic sore throat and cough. This is something some with chiari here seem to have in common however i could not say it is a symptom of Chiari or just coincidence.

Lizzy: That is funny when my pain gets bad I do the opposite, I don't smoke because I feel if makes my head worse. Thanks for the idea.

Ray: That would be something to look into. I do find myself clearing my throat a lot. Maybe that is why. Thanks for the help!

Meg :)
